- I have encountered probable Saponi (Blackfoot) connections in my stepchildren's ancestry, which is still very elusive. Surnames that I do know fit together from Douglas, Ozark, Jasper, and Howell Counties and other places (Civil War era!) include Dennis, Howard, Hines, Osborne, Nicks, Vandiver and King. Also possibly Crow and James. Are there any cousins out there?
