  1. Has anyone researched the following family? This is my family, but I'm stuck!
John Harris, born 1761?, who enlisted in Petersburg. His children were living in Wilkes Co, NC, on 7-3-1852 when they applied for a pension. They declared that he & their mother Mary Walker were married in Dinwiddie Co in Oct or Nov 1785. They moved to Randolph Co, NC, near, & lived there for 5 or 6 years, & then moved to Rowan Co where their father died on 4-20-1806. John may have been the "free" John Harris who was taxable in Dinwiddie Co in Braddock Goodwyn's district adjoining "free" Andrew Harris in 1801. Their mother married Drury Mitchell, in 1810. Their father had a record of the marriage and the births of his children, but the record was "taken off" by Drury Mitchell. Mary purchased 85 acres in Wilkes County from Jordan Chavis in 1829. Her 8-20-1833 Wilkes Co will, proved Feb 1834, named her 7 children: Nancy, Lucy, Jehu, Isaac, Polly Baley, John, and Ibby.
