Biography:

I am the granddaughter of Alice May Epps from the Sappony tribe in the High Plains area of Person County NC and Halifax VA. She passed away at age 48 in 1978 of a very bad heart when I was only 4. Her mother died when she was a baby. She was raised in PA by her father and stepmother and ran away from her father as a teenager. Aside from knowing she was American Indian from NC, the specifics of her heritage were mostly a mystery to my father until recently. I have always been proud of my native roots. I have spent a lifetime telling people that I am not italian, greek, middle eastern, hispanic etc. I am an almost 43 year old Registered Nurse who works with disabled adults. I have 2 children.

To learn as much as I can about my Native Heritage, to hear about Indian events, to advocate for Indian issues, and to maybe help someone else who needs assistance with how to find geneological information online since old census records and marriage records were particularly helpful to me.
