…………………………………………
I found the 1898 interview with Madison Hughs Schoolcraft where he says his mother is Martha Fener but no Fener/Fenner/etc were found in any Index for Virginia. Just the one “FIN” and there were some FINN’s. No Gabriel’s were found.
…………………………………………
I did find a John Schoolcraft in 1782 Monongalia Co., Va (now WVa), who was a private in the Virginia Militia during the Rev. War and was placed on the Rev. War Pension Rolls on Sept 6, 1833, age at that time was 76, and he was living in Lewis Co., Va (now WVa.). Part of northern Monongalia County did end up as a part of Pennsylvania, so if this is the John who is the father of Michael, I would think Michael was born there, not in Ky.
Also in 1782 Monongalia Co., was a Christian Schoolcraft.
A 20 yr old James Schoolcraft ( 5 ft 8 inches tall) served as a Scout in the Randolph Co., Va., Militia from March 1, 1790, until April 30, 1790, employed in Randolph Co.
The earliest Schoolcraft found in Kentucky was a James Schoolcraft, who is listed on the 1800 Garrard Co., Ky Tax List, dated Aug 6, 1800, so if James was there in order for Michael to be born in 1791 Henry Co., Ky, he didn’t stay.
……………………………………………
As I posted earlier, most of Michael’s children moved to Jefferson Co., Ind in the 1860s, Abraham died there in 1863, per his son Frances Marion Schoolcraft. I can send you that info if you want it.
