More On The Stodghill and Thompson Lines
I just received a book today that a cousin of mine in Kentuckey wrote. It is entitled " Thompson Notes Virginia to Wayne County Kentuckey 1804-1806" by Lyman Foster Reynolds.
Rubin Stodghill was married to Nannie Jenkins. Some have had it as Nancy Higginbotham, but this research on the Thompson lines shows the census record proving that Nannie Jenkins is the wife. These are the parents of my Mahala Stodghill that married James Granville Johnson.
I also found it intersting that Dickerson Thompson is listed in two seperate government documents as being either Dark or Ruddy complected with black hair and black eyes. This was information listed on pages 8 and 9 of the book. The photo static copy of the documents is in the last portion of the book.
The area in Pulaski County and border of Wayne County Kentuckey where the families lived was along Turkey Creek, Little Sinking Creek, and Big Sinking Creek. These creeks drain into the South Fork of Cumberland River. The church in the area was Zion Baptists Church. There is another church that has records on these lines called Baptist Church of Christ of Concord.
There are several surnames:
Branscom (which actually Branscomb)
It appears these and several other of these lines goes back to Abemarle County, VA.
Coffee, Cox, and New seem to be some new family lines that I had not previously known about in association with my Johnson and Thompson side.
Mason, King, Gibson Cousins
This link goes to a site of a cousin from the Mason/King/Gibson lines. This particular cousin is from Elizabeth Betsy Mason's brother James K. Mason who married Pheobe Gibson.
Possible Mason/King/Evans and Haynes Connections
This site links Mary King to the Evans and Haynes families via Mary's mother Eliza Evans. Eliza Evans parents are John Evans and Sarah Haynes daughter of Richard Haynes. John Evans father is William Evans.
If we could find out what port or ports the ship "Adventurer" came into droping off Robert Mason and William Evans then we may have some leads into what counties to look for information regarding these lines.
Mary King is listed in several postings as being Mary Evans King. I have also found two birth dates for a Mary King. One of them is July 9, 1828 S.C. and the other is May 9, 1760 S.C.
Possible father of Mary King is James King. I have in some old notes that Mary King's parents are Wesley King and Eliza Evans. I am guess here, but I am thinking that James King and Wesley are the same person. Perhaps his full name was James Wesley King.
