If you haven’t already, you may want to check the websites of these DNA testing services, they do a good job of explaining exactly what these tests are looking for. The YDNA test (father’s father’s line), and the mtDNA test (mother’s mother’s line) can be found at http://www.familytreedna.com. The DNA print test (percentage test) can be found at http://www.dnaprint.com.
If your father has unknown racial mixing in his background, all three tests could be useful. You could also test a sibling of your father. If you took the percentage test, about half of your score would reflect your father’s ancestry, but you can’t tell which half. It would be best to go over these websites, and ask the testing service any questions first before spending your hard earned money, as the tests can be expensive.
