Sorry to hear this…how goes the fight? And yes, there have been many places here on the East Coast where graveyards/cemeteries have been paved over or houses built on top of them. Most were fieldstone that were just removed and progress ensued. Not saying they were Euro or native, just old, and the comment usually is….”Well, they’re dead, who’s gonna know?” It’s sad, but, unfortunately true.
Ken and I try to log in all the ones in our county and keep on top of progress with a contact person in the ROD office. Hope the fight goes well and they leave the cemetery alone. There are many federal regulations regarding cemeteries…read up on them. They have to pay for removal and reinterment. And it’s a federal crime to deface a cemetery, stones, or flowers.
