Thomas Holder is my 7th great grandfather mentioned in the will of Paul Bunch in 1726, while Thomas and Susannah were living in Norfolk Western Branch. Thomas Holder is the son-in-law of Paul. He is on the 1732 tax list along with Bass and William Lovina. By 1735, Thomas and Susannah are living in Bertie county, next door to William Lovinia. Many, if not all their children were born in Norfolk. The youngest son’s birth date acertained was around 1735 to 1745. He was at least 21 in the 1766 land transaction with William Lovinia in Bertie county. This also means that Sussanah Bunch who married Lazarus Summerlin could not have been Elisha’s mother, much less his older siblings mother. She would have been in her 60s giving birth to the Summerlin offspring.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS, AND NAMES, IN HISTORY FROM MY FILES YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN.

“DIRTY WATER” DAN BUNCHThe May 1734 Bertie County, North Carolina court minutes referred to Keziah as “an orphan child entitled to a considerable estate … (by the will of Paul Bunch) bound to Capt. An Eno-Occoneechee petetion for recognition by the state of North Carolina gave Saponi Indians Jeramiah Bunch (s/o Henry Bunch born about 1690), George Gibson, and Henry Bunch (born about 1690, s/o Paul Bunch) land grants in 1785 along the Eno River just east of Hillsboro, North Carolina.

Notes on two children of Paul Bunch, perhaps by Fortune Holdbee:
KEZIAH HOLDBEE, born about 1724, was still a minor in 1742 (so born after 1721). Captain Thomas Bryant obtained guardianship of one of Paul Bunch’s orphans (who was “Entitled to a considerable Estate in this Precinct…by the Will of Paul Bunch”) by 13 August 1734. Bryant gave security for the same on 13 May 1734.116 Keziah Holdbee was called “a Molatto woman” on 14 May 1734 when her guardian Bryant was ordered to post £1000 security.117 Keziah Holdbee’s guardian, Mr. Dawson, was to give security of £2000 on her estate in 1740.118 Thomas Bryant was dead by May 1742, when his executor Benjamin Bryant pleaded to the court to allow him a sum for the expenses his father had in caring for the orphan “Cashia Holbee, her Negro Wench,” and six children for the space of thirteen years. John Dawson, gentleman, was the guardian of Keziah Holdbee at that time.119
iv [?] JEMIMA HOLDBEE, born circa 1726 (before Paul Bunch made his will) was called “orphan of Thomas Holderby, deceased,” on the second Tuesday in November 1740 when she complained that years ago the court had appointed Captain Thomas Bryan her guardian. Now that she was of an age to choose (age 14), she prayed that John Edwards be appointed in Bryant’s stead.120

Joseph Meacham may have been a son of Paul Bunch. There are two Meacham lines with matching yDNA in the Meacham DNA Project: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wmeacham/dnachart
