grandmother, mother and aunts with red palms claim the trait came from Blackfoot Indians. Anyone else have information about this?

Where’s your family from? Do you think they’re Eastern (Siouan) Blackfoot?

I have posted on another forum on this site that my great grandmother was Indian, my great aunt said they were cherokee, a cousin said she was told that she was blackfoot. They lived in Surry Co NC and Carroll Co VA. But I thought it was interesting because I have red palms too.

I have the unfortunate inability to see people turning colors. If some one turned blue, or green, or grey in front of me I would not see it. Don’t ask me to explain that, but as courtesy to any victims, I don’t volunteer for First Aid training.

However.. Upon reading this thread, I looked at my palms, hhmm, looks red to me.

I asked my unsuspecting spouse to look at my palms and tell me what color they were, she said, ‘they are red you dummy’.

I would love to hear anyone else describe this trait as this has really got me going.

Have to wonder how many are looking at their palms, and scratching their heads.

I wonder if the old expression “Caught Red Handed” was a slur against natives?

I just found something on the Internet which shows that it’s not.

Nice piece of research Daniel. Interesting to me because my NC hill billies came from Ulster. BTW I am also a Thompson (with a P), but of the northern variety.
