InactiveHi ! Linda
I don’t know if I’m replying to the right post. But, http://lumbeeindiansandgoinsfamilyblogspot.com has alot
of listings under Rockingham county, NC marriages.
There’s alot more but, whoever goes there should cache the surnames. It highlights them.
Frances Goin + Joseph Henry Harris 01-13-1873
James Going + Melissa Hickman 02-10-1889
Susie Going + George Hickman 12-10-1889
Wm Goings + frances Hickman 03-17-1876
Robert Jackson Goins + Emma Hickman -marker_ 05-28-1870 to 02-22-1949
There are also Kimmons.

I found a little information on Sarah Hickman my gggg-grandmother.
It said her mother was a White.
I found a Mary “Polly” White c. 1763 Lunenbrg, VA.” to grand-daughter, Sarah Dowell”.
They said the Whites and Martins are on the Hickman side -not Sarah’s husband, John Dowell. They arrived in Iredell /Rowan Counties, NC from Surry Co., NC.
The families were originally from the Hanover/Louisa/Lunenburg, Va area.
This is my mother’s paternal side. Also, there is a John Hickman Jenkins on my mother’s maternal side. Wife UNK. daughters: Sarah m. David Parker, and sisters,Elizabeth and Anne and one brother, John H. J. Jr.
Any one know about them?
January 18, 2006 at 2:48 pm #34967Magnolia, thanks but that site does not appear to be working.
Just a few things to toss out that may mean nothing.
A Bridgeman and a Mahone lived with some of my Collins ancestors in Patrick CO. Be sure to look there, too.
Has anybody seen Jack Goins’ new book yet? Thinking about purchasing it. Zacheriah King, who was an executor of Thomas Gibson’s will is my ancestor. Trying to figure out the relationship. The Gibsons married just about every other surname in Goinstown.
Lots of these folks still live in Patrick and Henry Counties.

January 18, 2006 at 2:48 pm #34986Hello, my name is thomas allen owens in henry county va. My fathers relatives come from sandy ridge n.c. John walter goins was my grandfather and his wife josey harris goins my grandmother. Robert jackson goins was my great grandfather and father of john walter goins. Robert was married to emma hickman. I started this study back in 2000 just after my father died. All through my life my father told us there was some secret about our ancestors but he would not tell us, my brother and I. Dad’s name was joe frank goins . He was 9 years old in 1930. John goins his father died in 1932 and my grandmother moved to ringgold danville va. They had 5 children joe frank ester ,bernise, gerthie. and haywood. Some time during this move their last names were changed to owens I do not know why and I cannot find out. I have just started to get information since the 1930 cencus was released. robert goins, wife emma hickman goins ,their son john walter goins his wife josey harris goins were all put down as indians on the 1930 cencus. On many other documents they are down as white. My father fought in ww2 and was badly wounded in his thigh, this was after the battle of the bulge. I would like to find any relatives and information about his family.

InactiveHi Thomas,
I just posted a long post and it was wiped out so I’m trying to post again. I also posted a few days ago 3 times ???
Your G-Grandparents are buried in the Goins Family Cemetery and there is a Birnice Goins d/o Mr. & Mrs Walter Goins in the harris Cemetery.
The source I found is the Cemetery Records of rockingham /Stokes counties, Nc by the James Hunter Chapter of the Madison, NC 1996 Vol IV ,pp.80-88. Chapter of the DAR.
It’s ” located in Madison Township in the Ayersville community near Rockingham Stokes
county line. Take Hwy 770 West to Thornton Road #1522 – turn left on Thornton Road. Go .2 of a mile to a farm road . The cemetery is at the end of the farm road.
