Hello Here and intersting site that I’d like to share.
For years I have been researching cane basketry and the Atakapa people have been hard to track down, like us the Eastern Blackfoot they have been deamed “extinct”!
We have a great deal in common with many of these groups that have been assimalated but not acculutirated!
The Ishak people are no exception to the rude rules of American poop culture and the melted pot!
Type in “Lutherans online” and in the seacrh window write Atakapa and it will take you to several pages!
Two very interesting items there that you need to read is “#7 Oakdale, the Opelousas ‘Blackfoot” ; there was a posting sometime back re. Louisiana Blackfoot People, I see the Opelousas have surfaced again after 70 some years aswell !
Also look at the Ishak Newsletter and go down to More News in bits and Pieces.
“*Near mid-November Wayne Joseph , with SW Louisiana roots, was stunned on National TV to learn by DNA testing that he is a Native American! All his life he had considered himself an African Amaerican.”
