April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9620Very handsome family. They all look pretty familiar. #1 looks like my son’s Chickahominy girlfriend, #4 reminds me of Cohee Lady (here on the forum), #5 reminds me of Crystal, the girl in #7 reminds me of Crystal’s daughter.
Where in NC do you live?
April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9622I am in Missouri but the family was originally in NC. Thanks for the compliment! It has become kind of facinating to me, now that I have found the blood relatives, as to the generational resembolence and similarities. I was hoping there would be some trait that the famiy would have that would narrow down the places I should search. From the previous posts I am going to use those clues and start the search!
Thanks again!
April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9695Sorry Brenda,
I have been on vacation in NC for a week, but to answer your suggestion about Sheri. I have been in contact with Sheri for several years now and she has been a GREAT help with all of my research, not just limited to Collins. She is very organized and thorough with her information. As a matter of fact, while I was in NC, she was in Ft. Smith, AK for a family reunion ( Coffee I believe) and hoped to do a lot of research while there. She is a good person and we have become email friends along with being distance cousins.
Hope you are well.
And again thanks for the suggestion.

April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9696Find anything interesting on your vacation to NC or was it just for enjoyment?
I wish we could sort out the Meredith /Griffin Collins mess as if we did that it might lead us one step closer to solving who their parents were. I assume they had to be related to have one sign a marriage bond for another’s son.

April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9698Thanks for the compliment Linda. 🙂
When I saw #4, the first person I thought of was my cousin Lee. Poythress/Peters line. We can definitely see the resemblence between the one picture and my daughter Cierra. In those 2 pictures you can definitely see some traits from the “Portugese” Settlement. Combination of traits from the Peters and Poythress.
What area of NC are we talking this line from?
April 30, 2004 at 12:21 am #9699Actually we have a vacation home in Warne, NC…….I say vacation but it really is a working vacation each trip there. We went to open it up after being close for the winter , and as always it is work, work and more work to get it back in shape. But I must say it is always nice to be in the mountains with its cool nights and GOD given beauty. But the week goes by too quickly and it ‘s back to FL and the heat and flatland.
However I do have plans to go to VA in June for the week of 14- 20th , there is a dedication and memorial schedule for Civil War soldiers in Wise, Wise Co., VA and my G Grandfather Washington Mullins will be one of them honored. Also , my sister and I plan to go over to Kingsport, Tn to attend one day of the Melungeon Gathering, our first time doing so.
Hopefully I will be able to do alot more research while on this visit.
The Wise Co. Historical Society has a wonderful research facility and they are having family research days during that week also. With researchers there to help us and assess to records. I have made 2 trips in the last 3-4 years there to research at the Wise Co. Court house and over to the Whitesburg, KY library ( both are GREAT places with lots of info and records). And I have learned alot each visit, so hopefully this will be a productive trip too.
Yes, it would be great to solve the Meredith and Griffin connection once and for all and as you say it would clear up some loose ends. I’ll be on the look out for any info I can find.
