It was a fabulous weekend! We enjoyed meeting and greeting everyone. It was such a pleasure to sit and talk and just drink in the spirit.
Linda, you were the inspiration for us to FINALLY put on our regalia and get out there! And thanks for the support to everyone that danced along with me, don’t know if I would have had the nerve to get out there otherwise.
I hope all had a safe trip home…we will be seeing Spilleddi at the end of the week before she heads back home. See some of you in a couple of weeks!June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27578
I will continue to dance…My spirit felt at home this weekend…many feelings I am yet trying to absorb. Becky, you looked beautiful dancing…I hope it was as spiritually uplifting for you as it was for me. Thanks again for your kindness and friendship.

That’s the feeling we have had in that town from the first time we visited over 4 yrs. ago. I feel sure I must have had family living there at some point.
Thank you for your kind words…it was definitely an mind boggling experience. I am still getting all the feelings into place from this weekend….and my mind is a blur with changes to the regalia. And I have to remember not to look at other women’s feet and just concentrate on my own. I must say dancing in grand entry was really an awesome experience. I am looking forward to the next time! And hopefully my moccasins will be ready…..LOL.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27580

I started dancing by watching the other’s feet, but then closed my eyes…I could feel the drum beating with my heart and feel the others around me…a peaceful yet energizing feeling. I am sure you will come up with some great ideas for regalia, I can’t wait to hear about them.:)June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27601
Hello again. What a wonderful weekend! I am still reflecting, in many directions.
It was so good to meet more of the Saponi Town community & to see Ken and Becky again. It gave my heart joy to watch friends/family dance & even just be.
We did not want to come home!June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27611
So you ready to travel to Nansemond in August???? That’s in the town of Suffolk which is the next town on Highway 58 after Franklin. Has great feelings there, too. The pow wow is held at Lone Star Lakes, and takes place right beside the lake. There are usually a lot of vendors there as well since we know y’all like to shop…LOL. Actually I have found many items that I used to make our necklaces and all. And that emcee will be the same one as at Mebane. I will post the info on the events page.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27612
Nansemond sounds beautiful, but I’m not sure we will be ready for another road trip by then.
Hey, shopping is good exercise. ;~)
Y’know, we searched every booth 2-3 times, looking for leather scraps we had seen at a previous pow-wow. Didn’t find them. But there were so many lovely things to see, we couldn’t remember what we had seen, so we had to look again. hehe
Came back with some new “sparks”, but have also dug out some old stuff made years ago & forgotten about. Nothing looks the same. It all has a different light on it now, & I feel myself staring endlessly…waiting to know what I really see.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27620
Bee…. Bill and Suzie have the leather scraps. They will be at Nansemand.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27628
Yeah, it’s amazing what you didn’t know you had in the closet, eh?
You probably saw Bill and Susie at Nottoway. And we need to get some more material from them as well. If there’s anything we can pick up for you, let me know….I will do my best. I have been reading the Martinsville information and think maybe they have moved it from where it used to be held. So we may be going up there for the day….it’s only a couple of hours for us. I think Shirley visited that museum, if I am not mistaken. The website looked very interesting any way.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27631
Thank you, Ken. Thank you, Becky.
Yeah, I think the museum moved to a bigger place. Needed more room for Dino or something. ;~) I have only driven past it (the old spot) on the way to visit relatives. Am looking forward to stopping the car and going in. I really hope you guys can go! I don’t want to over-dream, but to get to go to a pow-wow in the place where I was born feels kind of special.
There are still fish wiers (sp?) in the river near there. I used to marvel at the ducks sitting on them, without realizing their significance. Funny, huh?June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27658
I am wasn’t able to attend the Cheroenhaka Nottoway Indian tribe Pow Wow as I had planned due to a family emergency (my mom’s home was broken into). I am glad to hear everyone who was able to make it share their experiences of the event. It sounds like it was a great event.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27737
Howdy all, I am back home and just barely awake enough to drop a short post. Thank you all for the great Southern hospitality. I enjoyed meeting everyone at Cheroenhaka and had fun dancing.

Kelley – hope your mom is ok. Sorry you missed the pow wow…maybe next year, eh? Of course, there’s always Nansemond or Martinsville. Or maybe you could join us at the gathering at North Bend Park this weekend?
Spilleddy – glad you got home ok. Was hoping that the airline snafus didn’t affect you. We are so glad we got to spend some time with you…although, not enough (I’m selfish). Next time we will have to put on some music and dance in the circle, eh? Thanks for the support at Cheroenhaka…was nice to have you dancing beside me at grand entry.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27765
Of course yall are welcome in my neck of the desert. Would be nice to see some other SE Indians dancing arounds here.June 16, 2007 at 3:06 pm #27772
I am happy to hear you made it home safe…I so enjoyed meeting you and watching you dance was wonderful, blessings.:)
