Greetings,
I was just wondering if anyone here is from Ahoskie, NC?…..I remember going there and there were a lot (a LOT) of mixed people. One lady I knew, she had one of those old photos in the heavy oval glass on her wall, and the couple in it (her grandparents) were VERY OBVIOUSLY either full-blooded or at the very least had a great deal of Native blood.
Also, my supervisor is from Charles City, VA…..I’ve never been there, but hear that there is a lot of mixed blood there, too. She and her family definitely have a distinctive “look”. Anybody here from over there?
My sister knew a girl from Lumberton, NC who said that “Hunt” was a very common last name there. Is that true? I was just curious.
All these locales….Brunswick County,VA…Nottoway, VA…Greensville County, VA…Garysburg, NC….all these are HOME to me. It’s just so strange to hear all these locations that are so familiar. Most people scratch their heads when I tell them where I’m from.
Some of the names are familiar, too—I read a thread where someone was looking for Turners in Greensville Co, VA. I went to school with some Turners and worked with a Turner in my hometown; I never knew exactly “what” they were. They were definitely not Black, but not totally White either. I just went with my dad to look at a car for sale by one of the Turners; I can’t remember the guy’s name to save my life. Both he and the lady I worked with are older individuals from the same family.
Please forgive my rambling…..I’m still pretty blown away.
P.S. Useless factoid about my family tree: Someone on my great-grandad’s side traced their roots. There are a set of TRIPLETS in there! I’d say they were born around late 1920’s-early 1930’s. Three little girls. I’m thinking that was rather unusual for a whole set of triplets to survive infancy and thrive in rural NC during that time.

If you have a genealogy question, you’re welcome to post it on the “Share Geneaology …. ” section of the forum and I’ll see what I can find. Altho they seem to be related to some other line on here, I have been wondering myself about the HUNTs in that part of the world.
