Bill…. while I was surveying this one today, I had a strong feeling that it should be posted. This cemetery is located just below the Va border very near the Dan river. In my info on William Moore’s family I do not have anything on this Capt Robert Moore b. Jan 1742, though he would be a contemporary of and neighbor to my William. Also do not have any info on Alexander and Marion Moore. Could William also be their son?
Also, someone here was looking for early McGehees.
Location: McGhees Mill Rd (SR 1336) at lake bridge
Directions: From Roxboro, out of town on McGhees Mill Rd to lake bridge. Just west of bridge on left, coming from bridge. Look for old roadcut.
Access: park at highway, walk old access road for 1500 feet.

I’m not sure where all I am going with this..But the Mary A Hunt is Mary Allen Hunt married to Thomas Jeffreys McGehee..Mary Allen Hunt’s parents…Eustace Hunt and Eliza Anderson GLENN.

Parents Thomas Mumford McGehee, Mumford McGehee And Sarah MOORE.

In an index of Charlotte co Va wills there is
John Moore1792, Richard 1795 and Samuel 1795 but it was only an index.
I wonder if they and Robert and Alexanders are all connected?

OH! and farther down the line is Susannah Allen married to a John McGehee..susannah daug of Robert Jr., son of Josiah Allen, son of Robert Jr..brother to my Joseph..sons of Robt. Allen sr.
Now I have a BUNCH More names on All of the descendants of Josiah Allen..
Mother of Susannah Allen was Nancy Hamm.

Sue…… seldom have I been in any cemetery where the ancestors were so grateful to be found. ………. and so adament about being remembered.
This one belongs to the power company but we intend to get it deeded to the Person Co Historical Society. Have I mentioned that the society already has 6 with many more ready to be turned over if we promise to maintain them? The society has just voted a substancial amount of money to restore these 6 and maintain them… and to acquire others. I was put in charge of seeing to it…. locating, assessing need, contacting the people to do the work, the ancestors are quite excited about the current local trend…. if me and Becky and others can keep it rolling.
I know some here may have been disappointed with my apparent indifference to certain indian country issues but THIS is what I am passionate about…. this project has my soul… some other issues seem trivial in comparison.
Some passing mention of William Moore found but not enough to tie-in.

So we have pinpointed the Woodburn plantation as this is obviously the cemetery referred to. Another good waypoint for census visit #s. It is in Person co but may have a Semora address. Also interesting that my William Moore marries Susannah Martin and these Moores are connected to Jeffries. All roads seem to lead back to Jamestown then to Kent, England.

The Semora came in on an index of cemeteries showing Alexander Moore, son of Robert born Dec. 5 1789 and died 23 Feb 1832. Buried in the Red House Presbyt. Church Cemetery in Semora, NC.
The Hunts are connected to Jeffries also.
And in the above mentioned Eustace Hunt, Eustace is listed as a son of Nathaniel in his will from Charlotte. Nathaniel born about 1735 Charlotte co Va. Buried in hunt cemetery, Cub Creek, Va. I tried to find info on this cemetery but no luck so far. I wonder who else is buried here?
There are two Eustace’s in the LDS 1880 census..father and son…one black and one mulatto…assuming anyone carried the name down or did someone take the name on?
Dreaminghawk, you are doing something important in finding these cemeteries and the ancestors. Someone else can be passionate about other issues and they are. But THIS is your calling and it’s a good one. Right?!!

With a few minor corrections, this writeup matches what Sue and Bill have posted.
Thomas Jeffries McGehee was not born at Burleigh…… he built Burleigh, He was born at Woodburn. Woodburn was built by Mumford McGehee. His maternal grandmother was Mary Mumford. She married abt 1703 Gloucaster co Va John DeJarnette b abt 1680 in France. She left will 4-24-1765 probate 8-19-1765 Prince Edward co, Va Will book 2 pp 76-77
Edward McGehee will dated 4-4-1770 probated 1-28-1771 Cumberland co, Va will book 2 pp23-24
Thomas MackGehee will recorded 7-27-1724 in King William co, Va, married 2nd, Ann Baytop dau of Thomas Baytop of Staplehurst, Kent, Eng who came to Va abt 1679. Thomas Mackgehee was born James McGregor, 2nd son of Patrick McGregor, chieftan of the Ilk, who led his clansmen under Montrose in 1645 to the support of Charles Stuart and was outlawed after his defeat in battle. (Ken’s note… hence the speedy migration to Va?)
Mumford McGehee first bought land on both sides of North Hyco River (420 acres) on 4-22-1776 from James and Catherine Stewart.

Got my curiosity up, and not knowing my scottish history, I googled Montrose / Charles Stuart / 1646 …….found plenty but this site was the best all round site for surnames and capsule history of uprising. has a map of scotland with all the clan names in place…. some very familiar names.

I did get to the site..that’s neat! I enjoyed the liittle bit of music..
Searched more today..and found the will of Eustace Hunt presented in court 20 Oct 1845 Caswell Co NC..from the Glenn family papers #277…Southern Historical Collection, Wilson Library, University of NC at Chapel Hill.
Will lists Sons James, Nathaniel, Daughters Mary Allen Hunt, and Isabella W Cunningham..wife Eliza..and sons Littleton and the youngest son Eustace. Littleton married Mary Elilzabeth Jeffreys..they had a son Glenn J Hunt born march 05 1861 among others. Had a son Eustace who died at about 6 years old.

Never really went full circle with this….but Eustace Hunt’s father, Nathaniel Hunt married Mary Allen. Eustace names a daughter Mary Allen Hunt who married Thomas Jeffreys McGehee.
Nathaniel’s father is James..found his will too. James father is Richard Hunt..same as Ralph Hunt’s father…James and Ralph brothers. Ralph father to Sarah Hunt, married to Joseph Allen, my line. These people are really tied together.
