Looking for information on these family’s from the North Carolina area.
Family legends has it that one of my distant grandmothers was Blackfoot indian.
Haven’t been able to nail down anything on it other than it was likely through the Ingram/Helms/Bass lineage.
Blanche Roberta Helms (b. 3-31-1900 N.C.) married John Tillmon Ingram (b. 7-23-1893 Catawba Junction, York, South Carolina)
Blanche’s parents were Lonnie Oliver Helms (b. 1-18-1876 N.C.) and Martha Jane Bass (b. Sept, 1877 N.C.)
Martha’s parents were Andrew J. Bass (b. ~1834 N.C.) and Marget E. (maiden name unknown) (b. ~1838 N.C.)
The Hawkins name comes in very far back in the 1700’s with my 4xGrandfather’s (William Britton Tully) wife Sarah Ann. We believe her to be a Hawkins due to a son’s name and an established pattern in which this family names their children.
William was born ~1776 in N.C. and Sarah was born ~1783 in N.C.
I’ve got no idea who Sarah’s parents are….
Any of these folks sound familar?
From the appearance’s of my family’s line, it’s hard to not think there wasn’t a NA connection somewhere…
My lil sis is a part-time model that has photo’s on the web if you care to look at the features.

I’ve got a few of me here, just have to navitage to the different folders:

I look forward to tracking down this intriquing lineage of mine….
May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14862From Ancestry.com’s “North Carolina Marriages, 1827-1900”,
Andrew J. BASS m’d Emeline BASS, on 16 Mar 1854 in Union Co., NC.
………..
Because various census records list Andrew’s wife as Margaret E., “Emeline” may be “Margaret Emeline”.

Ellener………., 17, f, – , NC.
Martha D. ….., 1, f, – , NC.
………………………………………………………………….
So, Andrew J. BASS m’d Emeline BASS in 1854 Union Co., NC.
Emeline’s full name may be Margaret E. Bass, possibly a cousin, as there are BASS relatives of Andrew J. in the area, but I haven’t been able to confirm that with census records.
And Andrew J. BASS’s parents are Richard and Mary _?_ (but maybe WILSON ? Needs to be checked as there is a WILSON surname association earlier in this line.)
………………………………………………………………….
There are a number of Family Trees showing Richard Bass, b. 1794 Anson (now Union) Co., NC. There were 3 related Richard Basses all born between 1792 and 1796 in NC. A lot of people have them mis-matched, i.e., Richard BASS, father of Andrew J., is also shown as d. 28 Sep 1875 in Pike Co., Ind., but the Indiana Richard BASS (wife Sarah) was in Indiana in 1860 at the same time Andrew J.’s father Richard was in Union Co., NC.
Most show “Richard Bass” as the son of Burwell (Burrell) Bass, b. abt. 1760 Duplin Co., NC, and Elizabeth YORK. The additional complication is that there were also several Burwell/Burrell BASSes in this same line and alive at the same time. One Burwell BASS is the son of a Richard, b.1707 Norfolk, Va. The others are probably the sons of Richard’s (b.1707) brothers. (The “Burwell” comes from Richard’s (b.1707)’s mother Mary Burwell, who m’d 25 Aug 1695, Richard Bass Sr., b. 2 Aug 1658 Va.)
(The 3rd Richard Bass, lived in Georgia). All three of the Richardes born in the 1790s, look to me like they are descendants of several sons of Richard Bass (wife Elizabeth _?_), b. 29 June 1707 Norfolk Co., Va; d. 1781 (probably) Duplin Co., NC.
This does get a little confusing. You would need to get very “picky” to determine the parents of your Richard BASS.

May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14863WOW! That’s alot of great information! Your awesome!
I think I’ll have to change my subscription over to Ancestry.com from Genealogy.com’s as I couldn’t find anything on it there
So you think this “Bass” line is N.A. related?
I’m not sure where it will turn up in my lineage, thought it might be this line since the Bass surname seemed to be affliated often with native americans…but it could be further back in another line however my Dad seems to recall it being through the Ingram/Helms line of our family…
At the very least this definately was a HUGE help in my quest on this line….
😀
thanks again, you’ve been a tremendous help…
May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14868I have no idea if this BASS line is NA.
I wouldn’t get rid of the Genealogy.com subscription. It has much more historical documentation than Ancestry.com, once you get back before 1850.
Ancestry’s strengths are its Census Online (to get you to 1850) and its Trees, but Genealogy.com has more trees, just organized differently. Additionally, the 1900 and 1910 census data on Gen.com are “All Name” census indexes – Ancestry’s are not.
A HELMS and INGRAM line is associated several times with this BASS line in that area of NC. I’ll take a lood at them while I’m looking for “Emeline Bass”, and see where it leads.

May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14884Hi Vantully,
Are you back further on the Ingram’s? This database has 3,521 Ingrams..and one is John Tillman Ingram..might be helpful? Seems well researched.

John was as far back as I’ve got so far. I’ll look into that link and see what turns up….
Hattie M. is my Grandmother..

Would you post the ancestry world tree page that has John Tillman Ingram on it ?

May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14898Should be this one:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sarahc_ingram&id=I34027
However, this isn’t my John T. Ingram…wrong time, place etc…
My John was born in Catawba Junction, SC.
My father remembers traveling often when he was a kid from Charlotte down to the Fort Mill area which is near Catawba to visit family…
May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14900Found John on 1900 Census for Catawba Township…
http://www.tullyfamily.com/download/hattieingramSC1900.gif
Definately my John since it appears he named his daughter (my grandmother) Hattie, after his widowed mom. Obviously John never knew his dad since John is only 5 here and Hattie is widowed already…
Now to figure out who John’s father is…and when he died…
May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #14907I’m still working backwards from the 1900 Catawba Twp census entry you’re refering to. On the 1880 Chester Co SC census for Lewisville Twp, p.206D, visit 330, is an H. Thomas Ingram, 28; wife Harriet, 25; dau Jane, 4; and some James, 2.
Hattie may be a nickname for Harriet. James may be the same as the “Jim, 20”, shown as Hattie Ingram’s son on the 1900 Catawba Twp census. Still working on it.

May 11, 2005 at 11:34 pm #15167Back in 1638 a Bass man married a Nasemond Indian girl her name was Elizabeth.
