Rachel Vinson married Theophilas Bass, and Sarah Vinson married Ezikiel Bass. Both Rachel and Sarah were born I think in Franklin Co. N.C. and were listed as half-breed Indian.

May 15, 2005 at 1:43 am #14946Do you know of any Richardsons that are native in Youngsville?
My ex husband is a Richardson. His father is William Otha and his grandfather (his father’s father) is Foster Richardson. Not sure about others farther back.

May 15, 2005 at 1:43 am #15007Lynne Pepper, on this forum, has a VINSON (Vincent) line in next door Halifax Co. (Western District), NC, in the 1840s and 1850s. See her “Pepper/Smith” thread.

May 15, 2005 at 1:43 am #25649Coming to this late: If you’re still on the forum, can you cite a source for Rachel and Sarah being listed as Indians? I know the Bass line was–they were originally Nansemond– but have seen conflicting info on the Vinsons. My ancestor Temperance Vinson was either sister or half-sister to Rachel and Sarah, and they shared in their father’s estate equally.

May 15, 2005 at 1:43 am #25651Another thread has a good bit of info about some upper branches of the Tar River that are in Franklin County, and on which a number of families of known or probable Saponi descent were settled in the same general area.
One searchable collection of tax lists is linked in a message on that thread. These lists sometimes indicate that a particular individual was “mulatto,” or otherwise not entirely white. Might include some of your folks, I don’t know. Anyway, check it out by going here, and then clicking on the link in that message:

Of course Granville included much more than present Franklin County, but if you find the right list, you may find several relevant families on it.

There is a book on the Southern Basses, This book lists both Sarah and Rachel as half-breed Indians from Franklin County NC, I believe Rachel is the daughter of Thomas or William Vinson and Sarah is the daughter of James Vinson and my gggrandmother Matilda Vinson is the daughter of Drury Vinson. I believe that they are all brothers.
