Bill, Emma just found something interesting that’s posted on Lindy Luu’s first post on the “Welcome to Saponitown” topic.
Members of the Cornish family in Maryland and Delaware were
i. Esau, born say 1718, bondsman for the appearance of (his brother?) Samuel Cornish in Dorchester County court in November 1742 [Judgments 1742-3, 43-4]. He was taxable in Indian River Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware in 1770.
1 ii. Samuel1, born say 1720.
iii. John1/ Jack, born say 1722, living in Dorchester County on 20 October 1745 when Charles Hudson and Thomas Stewart posted bond for his good behavior and appearance in November Court [Judgments 1744-5, 468].
2 iv. Sidney, born say 1724
Could you see what you can find on the Hudson name in that county and time? This may be related to the Blackfoot Town, and the Seneca/Tutelo uprising of 1742.

Sussex County, DE USGenWeb Project
Sussex County, Delaware
Sussex County, the southernmost county in Delaware, is bordered on the north by Kent County, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the west and south by Maryland’s Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties. The boundary between Delaware and Maryland was long disputed. Until the 1760s and the Mason-Dixon survey, Maryland’s claim extended well into what is now Sussex County. The border was undefined, but there were Somerset land claims roughly up to the Indian River, and some beyond that. If you’ve got lines in Sussex County, especially in the southern part, you would be wise to check Maryland records, too.

Something else, though. Hudson was a Seneca name. Queen Catherine was married to Telemut who was also known as Thomas Hudson. http://www.rootsweb.com/~srgp/families/montour.htm . This family knew, lived near, and interacted with Chief Logan’s family. I believe that at least one or two sons called themselves Hudson and ran around the PA, WVA area. There is a diary online, describing their abduction of a white family.

June 4, 2005 at 4:19 am #15184Hhhm, that’s interesting . . . Hudson a Seneca name. So my Hudsons would have been in the general location where the Seneca and Tutelo joined forces, a few generations after the adoption of so many Tutelo by the Seneca that the majority of Tutelo were then with the Seneca.
June 4, 2005 at 4:19 am #15186Linda,
My folks were there too, my Sinkeys and Hustons. Some of the stuff I read indicated that Logan’s family knew and lived with Catherine’s people. Then when Logan’s family moved west, they moved to an area that another part of my family were located.

June 4, 2005 at 4:19 am #35137WOW! The Hutson/Hudsons of Sussex are very close and mentioned in Will and court proceedings of Jonathan Hill (b. around 1741 if memory serves, potential son or nephew of Chief Tom Hill of Indian River Saponi/Assateague/Tutelo) of Sussex, DE….Jonathan Hill had Elzey Hill/or Elzia Hill, a name which stuck in the family (lots of Elzey’s in next 200 years). Any help on the Hill line? Is Elzey or Elzia a common Saponi name? I know it is used amoung the Cherokee in NC etc.
