The previous thread Cowpens, came about when I googled for a Drury Harris.
The Drury Harris I have is born Circa 1800. All of these people out of Person Co NC and Granville co NC.
Ken and Becky found the gravesite of David Young Allen and Catherine Lanier with an infant..and their son William Lanier Allen married Alice Yarbrough..we have a connection there. Other children…Elizabeth Allen born 2-1-1773 married John Lawson..Daughter Catherine married Drury HARRIS. Married 2-16-1833 in Person co N.C. David young allen is a son of Drury Allen and Elizabeth Tinsley.
Another daughter Sarah married Charles HARRIS. It is their son Drury that marries Catherine Lawson. Charles HARRIS is the son of Richard Harris and Priscilla Holmes..his will written 5-30-1785 in Granville. Names in his will daughter Lucy PARKER B 1768 Granville. Cont’d
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15194Names in his will..Lucy Parker, daughter Mary Harris..she marries Elijah Parker.. sons Charles..Samuel (who did Samuel marry????) Richard, Tyre, Jemima Ford and Molly Bearson. Here is a Parker link..http://kinnexions.com/smlawson/parkerr.htm#JParker
Sarah Allen and Charles Harris had children:
Benjamin, David, William, Allen, Drury, Mary, Fennel, and Sarah married Nathaniel Lewis..these many Lewis children born in Granville..
there is a Fennel Harris in a will of a Ginnie Mitchell 1811..wonder if he married a Mitchell? any other info??

June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15197Hello Saj,
Thanks for your post. I have been to that Parker website before. Do you know how they are or arn’t connected to Native Americans. I have been trying to figure that out but only come up with dead ends.
I am researching my Henry and Mahaby Parker line from Granville County, NC.

June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15198Sue….. the WPA 1937 survey index lists 6 Harris cemeteries in Person co, NC. Becky and I hope to have our own copy of the complete listings (262 cemeteries in person co) by the end of this week. We have access to a copy at the historical society…… but if we can bring it home for a few days, we now have a new printer/scanner/copier to play with 😉

I don’t know about this particular line of Parker being mixed-blood or not. I did think it was interesting that on the Cowpens list was a Drury Harris and a Drury Harris in the Allen-Harris marriage of Sarah and Charles Harris. Drury is used over and over again in the Allen line. I wish someone could shed some more light on this. Harris and Parker.
Dreaminghawk, that is great! I haven’t checked for Harris before, just found this recently, Parker too.
Saj
I just found this after I typed the above.

Now after I put that link on there I realize you already have that info…oh well…saj
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15214Although there are Parkers buried in person co before 1900, none of our lists of (at one time) known cemeteries in person co, NC show a Parker family cemetery.
Sue, I have found the name Drury in several more families in Person co, NC. Perhaps I should jot them down as a possible family group “tag”, like Moriah/Mariah, Mahala/Mahalay, and Katuah/Ketuah
btw….. another unusual name we have seen repeated in this group is Anzolett (f)
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15215saj,
I have a friend in Person Co (Roxboro) that is a Harris. Her family if definetly indian, but they do not claim their heritage. There gr aunt who was a Thomas from Virginlina Va ( who did claim her indian heritage). Their names are Janet , Brenda, and Vertis. They are also first cousins to the Nelson’s (who also look indian). People in Person Co who have native blood have a hard time with sharing that with people.

June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15218Ken, I would love to take a name like Drury in various families and see if they connect. Some of these names could be a clue to families that intersect.
Jade, thanks for the reply. My problem is that even though there may be Harris families in Person co of Indian ancestry, there may be others who aren’t so unless we can know that specific families are, I feel like I never really know. It gets frustrating.
Ken, the Parkers I found were in Granville so maybe not as much in Person?
I started a post before too on a Hulda Parker who married Benjamin Allen, in the same Allen clan, but hit a dead end on Hulda. I’ll look further. Saj
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15231I’d like to see what Harris families are thereabouts in the late 18th century. My Thomas Harrises show up in PA in 1810.
There’s also a Harris in PA in 1740’s. I believe that name was Samuel. I’d be curious was Harrises were around just prior to that in Person Co.

All I found so far is that in Person co NC on the 1800 census are Robert Harris and Sam Harris and Jn? and in 1802 a John Harris of Granville co NC sells land in Person co to Abel Parish on both sides of Aaron Creek..signed deed with a mark, witnessed by Overton Harris and Sterling Harris. An Elkanah Parish is deeded from Jesse Ragan 50 acres on Blue Wing Creek..witnessed by Robert Harris..the date was missing but the deeds were in order of years and that was 1797 or 1798. There was also a Powel Parker, Abner Parker and Stephen Parker. In the line of Richard Parker III, are children Richard, Daniel, Francis b circa 1726, Stephen, Jonathan (this the Jonathan who married Ann Copeland, father of Elijah who married Mary Harris..sister to Charles Harris who married sarah Allen) JONAS, Jacob, Peter, Robert, Ann, Alice, Patience, Elizabeth. There is a Powel parker who has a son JONAS, and the son JONAS..
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15241AND the JONAS, son of Richard III has a son POWEL. This POWEL has a son JONAS. Must be names in the family. If this is correct, Richard III was born in Nansemond, died in Chowan co NC ..Jonathan and Jonas his sons born in Granville..don’t know about all of the others.
John Parkers will proved Aug 1788, lists son Jesse, Daughter Rachel Dixon, Daughter Elizabeth, wife Ann (Copeland), to three youngest sons, Samuel, Elijah, George..son Cader died prior to will..His will written 8-12-1777, recorded Nov. 1780. Wills to brothers George and Elijah and sisters Jemima, Elizabeth and Pharada. In reference above to three youngest sons…Elijah born 1768 Granville. Moved to Bedford co Tn. Sue J
June 12, 2005 at 5:31 pm #15244hello Saj and mdsmokedancer,
Yes Saj,
Those are my Parker’s that you found on that website and that’s were I’m stuck at. I cant get before 1850. Also, My Mahaby has been recored under a couple of names on the census, those include: Mahaby, Haley, Haly, Halsalar. Also, family members have refered to her as Hazel and Mahaley. I have been trying to find out if anybody else has a Halsalar in their family I don’t know what her maider name is.
Mdsmokedancer,
thanks for inviting me to the yahoo page a while ago. Did you get my info on my Parker’s. If not, there is a lot of info I’ve put on this website. Let me know if you have any connections.
Thanks,
ADillard
