July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15726I had Fereby Newton for that spelling..married to Nathaniel Melton.
Meltons out of New Kent co Va and Hanover before 1700 and on into NC..I haven’t researched the Newton name much..but your John G Newton married Nancy Hailey in Person co 10-14-1809 might lead to finding something. Sue J
July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15728Sue, I have found a Giles Newton in Va at the right time to be John G’s father but can’t make the connection and can’t find anything to prove that “G” is Giles……. not even with his grandson, John G. ;-(
I would have to find my notes to see what VA county Giles Newton was in. Another interesting name I saw in Chowan names was Beasley. Beasleys arrive in Granville co with Newtons.

In snooping around a bit it seems that people are showing John Newton born abt 1760 as father of John B Newton..What other names are there..siblings? This seems to be a brick wall for others too..I was interested in this Giles line too..Showing Giles born 1734 Henrico co Va married to Elizabeth Terrell. Son Younger Newton married to Elizabeth Cargill going back on the Cargill’s to Cornelius who had five? wives..and Younger Newton had a son Giles and a son Younger..this one born 6-6-1792 in South Carolina married to Nancy Smith..and HE had a son Giles…Sue J
July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15742My cousin connected our William Henry Newton b. 1814 Va to John G Newton….. perhaps because William names a son John G.
William married Mary Jane Mann on Jan 12 1835. I have no proven siblings for William…… also remember seeing a Uriah Newton in area with similarly named sons…… gotta find my Newton notes 😉
July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15750Dreaminghawk,
John Newton born about 1760 Person co…

Uriah born circa 1788 died in Trigg co Ky.
Benjamin married Priscilla Butt.July 25, 1829 in Sumner co Tn.

July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15753Who is his father??? …… the $1,000,000 question
Before you spend too much time….. Bill worked on this line for me back in Jan. (Found some of my notes;-)
Bill found John G and Robert Newton as hoh in 1820 Person co. Robert is more closely living with the group my William will live with. He is as good a candidate for William’s father as John G is….. so the question is WHO is the father of John G AND Robert Newton 😉
Honestly, I am at the point of amassing any Newton info…. that’s why the Chowan info was greatly appreciated.
You know the original settler, John Newton, was a reluctant slaver in 1600s?

Just found this which you may have..
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/NEWTON/1999-06/0929989096
None of the names I showed connected with Giles are here so……Giles may still connect earlier as a sibling of someone not found yet?

I thought that you had that surname..it would be so nice if we could tie as many of us together as we can with all of the intermingling.

July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #157651 John Newton 1760 – b: Abt. 1760 in Person Co., NC
……… 2 John G. Newton 1784 – 1850 b: Abt. 1784 in Person Co., NC
d: Abt. 1850 in Logan Co., KY.
…………. +Nancy Hailey 1785 – 1818 b: Abt. 1785 m: October 14,
1809 in Person Co., NC. d: Abt. 1818 in Person Co., NC
mine and Bill’s best guess right now…until we find another piece:
……….2 Robert Newton b. ABT 1790 m Mary UNK …… stayed in Person co, NC when the rest of family went to Ky…. and gave rise to my William Henry b. 1814 and all the other Person co Newtons.
July 31, 2005 at 12:03 am #15766Maybe it is nothing but there is a Nicholas and Henry both early on in Essex co Va..and Henry !, II and III and children of these of Robert and William and John..makes me wonder about the William Henry you have…who knows..Sue J
