Our New Emblem

I think we have developed the design for a necklace that we can use as an emblem for our group. It is taken from a gorget found in Hillsborough, attributed to the VA/NC Siouan. It’s similar to other pieces found from this nation of tribes in other of their locations. We have found a wonderful shell carver. If I can quickly get some feedback that people are happy with this, we can start ordering.

We’ve tried to stay true to the artifacts, while producing something practical and wearable. This disc is 2″ round, apparently smaller than the original, making it necessary to sacrifice some of the dots. I’m comfortable with this. If it were precise to the original, I’d tend to feel it might be too sacred for everyday wear. If that makes any sense. It would also likely be too heavy to wear very long.
