Can anyone explain to me the connection of William Riddle and his family to the Saponis?
I understand he was known to run with Micajer Bunch and his wife may have been a Roberts. Is there more to it?

Hello well I can’t say if there really much of a difference here, many of the communities of “melungeons” are of Eastern souian origins, perhaps some one else may help but I really feel that they are both the same people.
There may be oposition to this but, the Melungeon term is a perjorative not an self identifiaction.

My personal opinion aside, that is a very good question.
William’s father Moses Riddle/Ridley “Indian”, lived in an area that was Eastern Siouan territory at an earlier time and the Roberts’ girl’s family may have been mixed(?) Tuscarora (another good question).
