I have been working on my mom’s side of the family this last couple weeks after finding that her Leonard line was in Kenosha, Wi. My grgr grandpa was Rev. Elijah Leonard born 7-17-1811 in Granville, Washington co NY, died in Kenosha.
His father was Addison Leonard born in Wetherfield, Hartford co ct. Married to Elizabeth Robbins Clark…parents were Jemima Robbins and James Clark. Jemima Robbins born in Scituate RI, c1750. James Clark born 6-28-1747 in Saybrook, Middlesex Ct. Jemima’s father Samuel Robbins married to Bethia ?. Samuel born 9-9-1711 in Killingly, Windham co Ct, his father Samuel born Chelmsford, Mass. 1-2-1678/9, married Dorothy Barrett. Wonder who Bethia is? (James Clark was a revolutionary soldier.) saj

Do your Robbins and Clarks originate in Va? There may be no connection. I did notice various Robbins in the native tribes of New England too.
Being my mom’s side I’ve always assumed there is no native american ancestry but the more I learn the less I should assume.

December 28, 2005 at 7:47 pm #18479Sorry for not answering quickly but the farthest north any of my folks were is in Maryland. My Clark came out of Virginia and my Robbins out of Maryland with my Maddox family. It is my belief these families were white.
When I started this research i went to my family and said ok folks who were the indians. My family is pretty close. The overwhelming answer was in unison the Moore’s and the Etheridges. Well as it has turned out these 2 families had much to do with Native people that is why it is still so heavy in our family. You know i never thought about until I started commuicating with my fellow Nottoway but my grandmother and mother and all my aunts have this special fry bread they all make. I was chatting with another Nottoway recently and come to find out his mother made the same thing. I just smiled there’s nothing you can say to that..just tradition passed down.

Interesting.
Maybe you should start a new thread on your MADDOX from Md.
Stacey23 & I both have those Md folks who stopped-over early in w.ctrl. Va for a couple of generations in the mid-1700s before going to Ky and Ind.
Is one of yours a “Notely/Notly” from the Maddox/Thorn line ?

One of my great grandmothers was Sarah Maddox she fits in my Moore line through a marriage of a Robbins and a Moore. Sarah maddox married John Robbins I believe. I have not been able to find out anything about her. All I know is Somerset Cty. Md. and that is on the eastern shore just a little ways from the Virginia border. Also this family had ties to Westmoreland Cty. Virginia the Robbins did anyway…
