Hi to all!
I haven’t been on the forum too recently. My news…My daughter got married last Saturday. She met this wonderful guy last September and 6 months later……..!!!
They got married in a park pavillion (heated) with a fireplace. My son joked that he got married a couple years ago in August on the hottest day of the year, and his sister was getting married on the coldest day. But his was outdoors with no air conditioning and at least she had heat!! The snow was falling outside all afternoon and they had lots of twinkle lights strung..it was soooo nice. Now she is leaving tomorrow to move away about 1400 miles away. This is the hard part. We are close and she has never been that far from me. But she is happy and I’m happy for her. My son moves out in two days for Indianapolis. LOTS of changes here. The parents….
February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19299here on the forum of children who have left the nest know what that is like. They need to become independent but it’s hard to let go. So if I haven’t had lots of input here lately, it’s been busy. All of this with my daughter has developed quickly and I’m just kind of overwhelmed with it all. But here is this beautiful, talented, sweet and loving girl who was beginning to think she would never meet anyone. Not true!
Oh my I don’t know what else to say, am a bit emotional these days. Just wanted to share. Saj
February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19315Hey saj
I know what you are going through..believe me. My daughter married a couple of years ago…I am lucky that she lives right down the road, though. It is an adjustment to having an empty nest…I went through it before Dreaminghawk and I got married…but, then the youngest moved back in and brought her kitty. And I am lucky that my son (Firetamer) lives next door with my mom.
I wish you the best and send you strengthening thoughts. Creator will help you along the path…to find what it is that will fill the void. And remember…we are always here looking for our ancestors.

I know what you are going through too. My son got married two years ago, just when my daughter took an apartment away from home. I tried to convince her to attend a closer university but not what she wanted. And last year, we both interviewed for positions on the east coast. Happily, the hubby found one closer to the two kids, so they are not so far away, each about a couple hours away.
The cats miss my daughter too.

February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19330Congratulations and sympathy. I’m getting a taste of this myself. My ex has set up housekeeping nearby and there’s a tug of war going on over who (of the kids) lives where. Some days I’m suddenly down to one from the usual four and I don’t know what to do with myself. Then they’re all home and fighting and tearing the place up and eating me out of house and home. Very weird, one minute it’s “What am I living for?” the next it’s “How do I live with all this?”
February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19346Thank you girls.
I guess in analyzing all of this I come to the conclusion that once a mom we’re always a mom no matter where our kids are. They’ll still be a part of my life. I imagine the phone bill to my daughter will be steep. I use phone cards. We’ll see my son often, Indy is only about 3 hours away. And there’s alot to do there. Just have to look at the bright side. 🙂
I think it helps to talk it out. I appreciate the sharing and caring. Thank you so much. Susie

Yep, you’re right there…and wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the days that all of them seem to pile in the house…not really planning it that way..it just happens. And it’s even better when I have cooked a big pot of something and we all share it.
As far as phone bills….don’t you have a cell phone? My long distance is free on my cell phone..that’s what I use to call family members. I don’t even have long distance on my home phone.
You will make the adjustment, no doubt. And Linda, enjoy the days that you’re there by yourself…enjoy the peace. And enjoy the days they are all fighting and eating…those are the days they will remember when all grown up…ask my kids.
February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19363Sue,
Get the free long distance plan on your line phone. I have that. Don’t use it much for the kids. I tend to use the cell, but I use it a lot with Mom. The phone calls catching her up on the genealogy information tend to be long.

February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19458Okay, I can’t quite relate to you, but I do understand! I have a 14 yr old son and a 7 yr old daughter, they are like oil and water sometimes, but still I do understand the depth of them not being around like Linda and if they moved away….aaaahhhh….I don’t think that I would be saying or feeling anything different than what you’re feeling right now!
Being a Mom is the most wonderful thing that could have ever happened to me!
Do ya hear me out there ladies?

February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19488you know it’s funny this topic has come up now. My son is 16 and is searching for the right college for him. Most of you know I live way down here in south Alabama on the Florida line. Anyway my son is looking at colleges in Virginia and North Carolina. Most of you also know my home is the Virginia, North Carolina border area where I was born and raised. I married just 2 years ago but now i find myself wanting to go home probably because my son is most likely headed that way……………HELP!

February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19490Well, when my son went home to college, the entire family followed. We both got new positions, we pulled our daughter from her high school, and moved back home with him. Now, he was not the only reason, nor the primary reason we moved; that was the daughter. But that is another story.

February 23, 2006 at 12:11 am #19562Well thanks all of you!
My daughter has been away a week now and I miss her already. But she is so very happy. Found a house and getting all settled. She just can’t believe she looks out the window and sees mountains. She was going with new hubby and getting clothing to go snow shoeing. All very exciting. Is that right? If you’re wearing snow shoes are you snow shoeing? I wouldn’t know and would probably break something trying.:) 🙂 My first and last experience snow skiing, on the beginner’s slope, I broke my nose. Don’t ask:)
Anyhow, as parents we have to let go at least some, sooner or later. Thanks for the support. Sue J
