I am back, now trying to find information on Joseph Bass who married Temperance Chavis. they had one son I know the name of Alaxander born 1821. He married Juila Coker, they lived in Indiana and Cass CO. Michigan. I am trying to find information on Joseph and Temperance, and the name of their other son, and two daughters they had. I am not sure where Joseph and wife died, although I have searched two counties in NC
Thank you.

Joseph Bass and Henry Chavous, both FPC, were next door neighbors on the 1820 Robeson Co., NC census; pg.300.
Henry, age 10 to 24, was too young to be Temperance’s father, but he could be related.
Circumstancially, I’d say this is your Joseph Bass.
On the 1840 Robeson Co., NC census:
Joseph Bass, age 55 to 100.
Jesse Bass, age 24 to 36.
Alexander Bass, age 10 to 24, with 1 female under 10 and 1 female 10 to 24.
On the 1850 Franklin Co., Ind census:
Alexander Bass is 25, b.NC; and presumed wife “Clica” (?), 27, with a daughter Lucinda, 12.
two houses from him is
Jesse Bass, 40, and Cynthia, 35, and their family.
The Lucinda Matthew, 33, in Alexander Bass’s household on the 1870 Cass Co., Mich census, is probably his daughter.

February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #19415Thank you Bill for the information, I did notice that since one of the Bass from our line ended up there in Cass, one of the son’s of the James Bass, I have been seeking as before on here, I thought there would be a relation between them and mine, and I know the person who sent me the information is related to Alaxander and his father Joseph. I wonder if Joseph would have died in Robeson Co. NC. I hired some one before to look, but maybe she looked in the wrong place. is there some place on line that might have a death for Joseph after 1850?
February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #19590Lena,
It looks like Joseph Bass died before 1850, probably in Robeson Co., NC.
Robeson didn’t start keeping death certificates until 1913.
I’m still looking for Moses and James Bass.

February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #19591I have where the Moses Bass son of our James Bass was born and died, and Moses’ siblings… I am just trying to find out who James Bass Sr.’s father and mother were. I know he was born about 1825 in NC, married Sarah Talbourn NC, finally got that marriage license last month, no information to help on it.1860 Highland Co., OH Fairfield Township 6 July 1860
James Bass 35 Shoemaker NC
Sarah 26 NC
Ella 4 OH (could be Celia)
Moses 2 OH
Samuel 4/12 OH
I have that Sarah died in Eudora, KS. of Scrofula in 1870 in January, but there is no stone at the cemetery, and no death record at the Douglas Co. Kansas courthouse per, Dana the clerk there. I also show that Samuel Bass son of James and Sarah died in Lawrence, Douglas Co. Kansas, age 13 who died on 5/11/1873 or 5/12/1873. Cause of death is listed as spinal meningitis. Under section “remarks:” it says charges pd by James Bass $4.He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery there, next to his father,
James who died, 8/23/1874, there is no obit, no will, probate or estate. He had just remarried about 4 months prior, to an Ellen Stewart who had several sons of her own. I have no cause of death, as he would of been, approx.49.
1870 BASS JAMES Douglas County KS 255 Eudora Township.
237/241
Bass James 45 m farm laborer NC
Celia 15 f keeping house OH Date of birth Nov. 3, 1855
Moses 12 m at home OH
Samuel 10 m at home OH
David 8 m OH
John 3 m OH
Moses Bass—first born of James and Sarah he married Ambersilous VAUGHN (Amba for short), her parents were John VAUGHN and Martha JEFFRIES, who was a sibling to Mortimer, who I have all kinds of information on. I do finally have John and Martha’s marriage license.
Moses left his siblings after James Sr. died, and went to Cass Co. Michigan, since there were other Bass’ there, I am hoping to tie him in, with them, and find James Sr.’s parents.
February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #20228on the roll roll papers that I have on Moses’ wife, Amba Vaughn Bass whose mother was a Jeffries, and on Moses daughter Luelva, there are two names on it, affidavatts,
one last name I recognize, and the other is a Hollie Chavis.
One of Amba’s great grand daughters married an Ivens, but would there be any other link to these people back to NC? as in family wise?
February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #20243Peace
I read that you were thinking about how your Bass, Vaughn, Stewart, Chavis, Jeffries families link back to NC.
Please take a look at the Person County, NC census for 1830- 1850. There are Bass and Vaughns near my Stewart (Ruffin Stewart 1840) and there were some FPC Chavis’ indentured to Stephen Munday (also Person County).
I’ll take a look too, please let me know if you find a connection to the Person County families.
Sincerely
akhasa
February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #20246hello and thanks for writing, I know about the Jeffries and some of the others, but finding the Bass parents and siblings of our James Bass has alluded me for many, many years. I will check the link out you mentioned. but with out his birth parents or siblings I have been searching down every one, and still come up empty. I have read a lot of things by Steven Pony Hill, but I have no way to link to anything. I will read what you said.
February 27, 2006 at 2:39 am #34208I did find that Alexander died in Cass Co, Michigan on 26 Jul 1900.
One of Alexander’s wives was Julia Ann Coker. One of Julia’s grandmothers was Elizabeth Stewart Coker. Elizabeth was one of Richard Stewart’s sister
