Bill, I have been looking for more information on Pleasant Wade. I found where he married Dorcas Hamblett in Goochland co. Virginia abt. 1795. At one point he was in New Kent co. Va. around 1810. He was on the census in Clinton, Ohio in 1840 age between 90 and 100. He was living in a town named Wayne. Would you check for me and see if you can find anything that mentions him in Goochland Va. or Clinton, Ohio. Thank you.

I’m poking around a bit too. This Robert Wade is the father of Mary who married Memucan Hunt. With land in Goochland.
Lds shows father of Dorcas as Morriss but there is a Maurice Hamblett in Pittsylvania co on 1782 tax list if that’s any lead.
I still wonder if Pleasant doesn’t connect to this group of Wade’s. Just have to see.

March 17, 2006 at 1:31 pm #19814Sue, Here is what I have found today. A friend of mine that volunteers at the historical society ties in with Pleasant Waid/Wade. He has an obituary for Mary ann Wade Born 1808 at Anthony’s Crk, Greenbrier co,WV. Died at Holly dist., Braxton co. WV.1885. She was married to James Heffner. Her parents were Pleasant Wade and Dorcas Hamblett. My friend says that Pleasant Wade was born 1759 at Hanover co. VA. and married Dorcas hamblett at Henrico co. VA. The Morris hamblett you mentioned was on ancestory .com I found him today it says that he was born 1740. It dosen’t say where but says that he died 1780 in Pittsylvania co. VA. His children were listed as Darcus,Hannah, Thomas,Tillethat,William,James, and rachel Lee. Pleasant Wade has a land deed here in Greenbrier county with his children listed on it. I am going to go this coming week and write their names down and do some research on them. I think it is very unusual that Pleasant Wade moved to Clinton, Ohio when he was so old. I wonder what would have made him move so far.
He does have a son named john on the deed I believe that this is my ancestor. He just vanishes after about 1870 from Greenbrier co. I wonder if John went with him to Ohio. Like the old saying goes The search continues. talk to you later.
March 17, 2006 at 1:31 pm #19815I found some of the same material on Pleasant so I can’t add much.
Maybe he went to Ohio with a younger family member?
On the 1840 Clinton Co., Ohio Census for Wayne Twp:
Pleasant Wade,
1 male 30 to 39.
2 males 80 to 89.
2 males 90 to 99.
1 female 10 to 14.
1 female 70 to 79.

March 17, 2006 at 1:31 pm #19833Thank you bill. Is it just my imagination or does it seem strange that there would be a small child living in a household with four elderly men and one elderly lady and a man that would be old enough to be her father yet there isn’t a female that would be old enough to be her mother. The man between 30 and 39 would have his hands full taking care of the elderly people and a child. I’m wondering what kind of home this is?
