Hi All –
My paternal grandmother’s line are LEWALLEN’s (various spellings) from NE Georgia area. The LEWALLEN’s can be traced back to Thomas LLEWELLYN b. 1645 in Wales, d. 1732 in VA. However, there is also a family history of marriages to NDN ladies thruout this line.
The single most obvious place to look is the marriage of Jonathon H. LEWALLEN b. c1851 in Randolph Co, NC to Cora GOINS. They were married 13 March 1882 in Randolph Co, NC. Unfortunately, I really don’t have any more information. Does this ring any geneological bells?
Thanks –
John C

On the 1880 Census of Grant Township, Randolph Co., NC, Cora Goins is the 17 year old daughter of Daniel and Margaret Goins. Margaret was also a Goins. Their race is given as Mulatto, and Daniel stated in court that he was of “Portuguese” ancestry, so as to allow him to be legally considered a white man. His father was a white man, Sandy Murchison, his mother was Leah Goins. Some of their kinfolks in Moore and Cumberland Counties later became part of the larger Lumbee Indian community. There are still descendants of her brother, Wellinton B. Goins, in the Franklinville area of Randolph County. Daniel Goins served in the 19th Regiment, NC State Troops during the Civil War.
I found the same information at

This site may be of interest to many Goin/Going/Gowan researchers if they have not seen it before.
