My name is Lester Collins. I have been researching my ancestry off and on for about two years. My family is fronm the New River area of Virginia. I have been able to research back to my GGG-grandfather Milliton collins born around 1770. Here is a my family history as I know it.
My Father- Thomas Collins 1926-1988
– Dorothy Collins 1928-1989
James O. Collins 1900-1969
Lila Wells Collins ? -1957
Henly Collins 1838-1923
Margaret Collins 1839-
Lewis Collins 1822-
Rebecca Collis 1825-
Milliton Collins 1770-1840
Leannah Collins 1772-
Milliton Collins is as far back as I can find. It has been hushed by my family over the years that we were Melungeon. I suspect we are related to Thomas Collins that was part Saponi Indian that was from Louisa,Va to North Carolina and the New River area of Virginia. I will be thankful for any information that anyone could provide.

Millinton Collins is Louis’s Father. I found that Milliton was spelled several different ways. I have been hit a wall at Millinton. I believe he was born around 1770. I found his will at the State Library of Virginia. He died in 1840 and left Louis several items and alot of other Collins’s various things like spinning wheels, Fields of wheat, knives,..etc.. It seems he wasn’t a very wealthy man. I copied his will from microfilm and it is very hard to read. Thanks for your help. Lester

Sorry I wasn’t clearer – I meant I was still looking for Mileton/Milleton/Middleton/Milton’s parents and his wife’s parents.
I think they are wrapped up in the Ambrose, Soloman Sr and David Collinses ‘mess’ – genealogy-wise!

Is Milleton Collins, “Milton” ?
1782 Montgomery Co., Va Tax List:
COLLINS:
Ambrose
Daniel
David
George
John
LEWIS
Martin
MILTON
…………
This Lewis would be at least a generation earlier than yours.

May 4, 2006 at 4:51 pm #21292That was apparently a combined 1782-1787 Montgomery Co., Va Tax List.
Land Entry Records, Montgomery Co., Va, for this period:
(none for a “Milton” and I think your Milleton/Millinton was born before 1770. Probably between 1760 to 1765 based on what I’m finding)
Milliten Collins. 80 acres on middle Big Reed, survey Montgomery county B-182, 10 May 1783; 80 acres on Big Reed Island, Grant# 29-325, 8 December 1793; 80 acres adjoining Benjamin Bailey. (from Elders work)
Millenton & Avy (elsewhere: ‘Aley’ ? ) Collins of Grayson County, Virginia to James Bobbit, L. (pounds) 34; 80 acres on Big Reed Island, Deed Book 1, p.480, 22 February 1802. (also from Elders)
Tax Records (from “Virginia Taxpayers, 1787”; and from Elders’ work):
Milliton Collins, 8/4/1787 Montgomery Co., Va.
Milliton Collins, 8/28/1788 Montgomery Co., Va.
Milliton Collins, 8/21/1789, (on Big Reed Island per Elders), Va.
I’d suggest you pursue Lewis Collins as the father of Milliton/Milleton/Middleton/Milton.
