If you do a search for Hicks and scroll down to Robert Hicks Indian trader, see the Elizabeth Hicks and Thomas Lanier? Earlier than your Washington Lanier and Elizabeth Hicks…but I sure wonder…..

June 23, 2006 at 5:41 pm #21993It is a possibility that your ancestor was out of the Hicks family that was known as the Watauga Hicks..The Ancestor of the Watauga Hicks branch was a Samuel Hicks/Hix who was a indentured servant that lived along the Rappahannock River in Va. in the 1650’s..Samuel Hicks/Hix was a indentured servant to the Rey family that lived at Isle of Wight.
His descendants are very numerous and scattered from Virginia, Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and Northern Georgia..Since many of his descendants settled in the area that was called Watauga, they have also been called the Watauga Hicks….I’m out of the line of Big Sammy Hicks..

we are more than likely related, Some of the Hicks frequently married into the Harmon family. It appears that the surname Hicks can be found among the Monacan, Cherokee, ans possibly the Saponi… Jeff Beard
