Hello,
I wanted to let everyone know that my I just had some distant cousins call me last night and told me that they have the proof on paper that we are Miami of Ohio.
My line consists of Hiram Jones ( I think of Virginia) who married a Morningstar Rebecca Lightfoot of Oh.
I have bene trying to get a hold of Stacy Maddox who posted on here in May, and have not been able to get a hold of her. I rmember lloking through some of her genealogy and finding very similiar names.
Does anyone know her, and how I could get a hold of her?
Does anyone know and how we can look up Miami records?
Thank you.

I have in the past sent her mail through this forum and I have never had a reply. I dont know what else to do.
August 29, 2006 at 1:21 pm #22978Hi Linda,
Sorry to get back to you so late. We have two sons (with another one on the way any day now) and all four of us play some form of ball from April through the end of October. With work, the two of them in school now, and everything else going on, we aren’t home very much, so I haven’t had much of a chance to do genealogy lately, but I still try to read on here every now and then and happen to see your post.
I went back through your other posts and emails that you sent me and I don’t see our Jones lines connecting. The Jones surname is very common and widespread. Unless it would be prior to 1812 when my 3GGrandfather, Harvey Jones, was born, in that case, he is my brick wall and I haven’t been able to get further back than that. My line went from Dinwiddie/Greensville Counties in Virginia to Greene County, Ohio (around the late 1830’s).
Also, and I apologize in advance as this may be pregnancy hormones talking, but please don’t say that “I have in the past sent her mail through this forum and I have never had a reply.” I did respond to one of your private messages back on 5-2-06 at 1:04PM. I still have it saved it you need me to re-send it to you.
You had also asked me about the Miami in the Joneses. I can tell you that oral histories from my relatives in Ohio were told Cherokee. I don’t believe this to be correct because of the area of Virginia (VA/NC border) my Joneses were from and the other families that they lived near, which is also how I came to the Saponi forum. Cherokee just seemed to be “safe” and most prevalent one to pass on. In regards to the Miami, my great-aunt is the one that told the family this. Her mom was a Jones, but died when my grandma was only 6 years-old. Since my grandma was so young when her mother died she didn’t get a chance to ask many questions about her side of the family and had to rely on what my aunt (her sister, who was 22 at the time) told her. I don’t believe the Miami to be correct either. I think my aunt said this just to appease the ones that were asking because the Miami were local to our area. She was born in Ohio, but didn’t come to Indiana until around 1903. My family settled 20 – 25 miles south of Peru, which is where the Miami Nation of Indians of the State of Indiana (see http://www.miamiindians.org) are located.
For Miami records, I don’t know what or if anything exists, but you might try some of these links…

August 29, 2006 at 1:21 pm #22979Hi Stacey, so good to see you. We’ve missed you. I know how life intervenes. Congratulations on your third child. Do you know yet if it’s a boy or girl? Remind me if I don’t send Rick Haithcock’s # to you. The Ohio Saponi are centered in Greene County, Ohio and nobody knows more about the families that migrated there than he does.

Thanks Linda. It’s a boy. Had him on Tuesday. There is a temporary picture of him on the hospitals website. You can’t tell with his hat on, but he has lots of black hair. 🙂

August 29, 2006 at 1:21 pm #23101The surname JONES right likely is very common…those that I have tidbits on originated in SC then on to VA and some to KY and TX…and MD into primarilly my maternal JETT lines…the one particular line that I know tell of that was in fact documented as being solely Cherokee is the line that descends from James Jones & Jane nee Baker…one daughter in particular (who I have a fabulous picture of and she id definately very much Native American and bears just a lovely tribal physical beauty) was Sarah Bird Jones (1826-1914)…she having MD a 4th cousin: Isaac Jett. With more specific names and dates….maybe we can be of greater assistance. Take great care and keep up the genealogical mindset~~~~Laurie
August 29, 2006 at 1:21 pm #23422There are a lot of Jones’ out there.
I just recived some new info on my Jones line. Hiram desended from an Abraham Jones. He was born 29 FEB 1796 Va (or whatever the land was then) and died 15 OCT 1850 Johnson CO. IN his last will was 13 OCT 1850. I recieved the same info that there was Cherokee in the line. And my uncle told me many years ago about Blackfoot. It has gone full circle. It keeps ending up in the VA area.
Does anyone have an Abraham in their line? Or anything close to it?
Thanks!!
Linda
