I saw your offer to help with surnames, so I did a search of my information from that area.

John Haynes-1731-Spotsylvania, Va married in 1752 in Bedford Co, VA. All of his children were born in there including my ancestor, Phelps Haynes b. 04 Jul 1770. Phelps’ maternal grandfather was John Phelps b. 1706 also in Bedford Co. Phelps Haynes married (1) Lucy Hurt I think in Bedford Co, VA. Her parents, Joel Hurt and Tabitha Collins were married in Halifax Co, VA in 1768 which, I believe, isn’t very far from Bedford Co.

Another ancestor, Thomas Traylor, married Phoebe Ferguson in nearby Halifax Co, VA in 1782.

The Haynes, Phelps, and Traylor descendants frequently intermarried for several generations. Also associated with these families (in my lines) is the name Greer. My 6th great-grand uncle, Parmenas Haynes, married Delilah Greer in Bedford County. Parmenas Haynes was a brother to my John Haynes. In fact, according to information that I’ve found, 4 out of of John Haynes 6 siblings married Greers.

I also have an ancestor Edward Hancock b. 1760 (birthplace unknown) who married Sarah Daniel in 1792 in Bedford Co, VA. Sarah’s first husband, Jesse Womack, died in Bedford Co., VA in 1782.

I would especially be interested in finding out more about the last people listed–Hancock, Daniel, & Womack.

Before getting out of my genealogical program, I did a search for Coleman. I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t find one. But I was wrong. The Thomas Traylor mentioned above had a niece, Sarah Louisa Traylor, who married a James Coleman. Sarah was born in Georgia (this was after the Haynes, Traylors, Phelps, Greers, etc. began their trek across the South.) She died in TX. Maybe there were Colemans who made the trek with them.
