This extensive work follows the Rogers family through Surry, Isle of Wight and Nansemond Counties in Virginia on to Chowan, Bertie and other counties in North Carolina. The Rogers are found in Nottoway, Tuscarora and Nansemond docs. in the 1700’s. My line of Rogers ended up on Goff Swamp near Saratoga and Black Creek in Wilson County North Carolina. Among their neighbors were the Bass, Barnes, Woodard, Daniel. The Rogers family married into the Brown’s and Turners of Southampton County as well. My line at one time lived at Cashie Neck on Roquist Creek in Bertie County. For 200 years they lived near and adjacent to Nansemond, Tuscarora and Merherrin settlements then made their own settlements of families who are known to be of ndn descendent. My research and the research of Benjamin Rogers Smith who wrote this 35 page book lays to rest the mysteries of the Rogers family to the satisifaction of my whole family and many others. Their movements seal what we knew to be the truth. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
This book was put in public libraries so it is public record if I can be of any help to anyone here just let me know. I will be glad to help.

My gggrandmother was Matilda Vinson who married a Parker(Elisha). Her people migrated from Franklin County NC,then Northampton County NC to Hertford County NC. Drewery(Dury) Vinson was her father, her mother was also a Parker(Elizabeth). Her family in Franklin County were listed as half-breeds. Sarah and Rachel Vinson were listed as half breed Indians and married Basses.

October 30, 2006 at 9:31 pm #26350Is Benjamin Rogers Smith related to Elle May Smith (Rogers). I have been trying to find my roots and reconnect my children to their Rogers family. When I was young there was a runion every year in Highlands NC. Elle May was my great grandmothers (Cora May Dietrich (Rogers))sister. I was told for years she was of Blackfoot descent
Please help me if you can.

October 30, 2006 at 9:31 pm #26465Is there any record of Harriet “Happy” Rogers (possibly from Surry County, NC)?
Happy was the wife of William Thomas Riddle and might have been a daughter to Doswell Rogers. Some think she might have been a Roberts instead. I just don’t know.
After William Thomas Riddle was hanged in Wilkes County, NC in 1781, she is said to have married William Ingraham and lived near Kyles Ford, TN in Hancock County.
