Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I am starting to think my grandfather’s family may have been Melungeon. His line has three surnames associated with the Melungeon’s of Virginia. My great grandmother’s name was Deliliah (Dillie) Tucker (his mother). The following is her line. James Keith, his son William Keith b.1761 in Va., married to unknown Allen. William’s son was John Keith b. 1788 in Va. married to Polly Allen then Deliliah Kennedy (Casada) b.1799 in Va., daughter of John Kennedy Sr. John Keith and Deliliah’s daughter Isabelle b.1825 in Ky married William (Billy) Tucker. Then we have George W. Tucker married to Nann Harris. Then William C. Tucker married to Anna Maxwell. Which is Dillie Tucker’s parents. I hope someone could give a little insight to this family. Thanks:)
I don’t find any of your names in that very small area of NE Tenn where the prejorative term ‘melungeon’ was used in the very early 1800s. Lately, many people have enlarged the term’s definition to an extent approaching some kind of cult but that doesn’t legitimize their claims.
