Boston Indian Land

This is to all of you that know more than me…History??? maybe …not sure this is where the thread belongs but i must put it some place.

My grandmother had a letter from a government agency BIA????? telling her there was an Indian Land Settelment…or that they were searching for the relatives of the origional owners. As the tale goes 8 city blocks in downtown Boston was the land in question.

I can’t tie down the dates but it had to be between 1930-1940 as my dad was stilll home. I have checked with the only living relative and she said she read the letter as a teenager before she married.. again in between that time period. Aunt Osce is 91 said she remembers it as if it were yesterday but could not rember the date.

My grandfather would not allow her to make contact for as you know if you have read my threads tha grand pa and his family was chased out of TN and burned the enrollment papers in fromt of my dad and with grandma screaming in 1931. Grandpa told her no one needs to know who we are. So it has been impossible to trace anything so far.

Boston is a mystery to me too because most of my relatives were in the VA,NC,GA,TN,TX migration. Many go back to VA in the early 1700’s but not others with missing last names for the women for example.

My grandmothers name is Ada Sprayberry/Spraberry/ Hamblen/Hamlin, surnames in her line are Tipton,Starling/Stalllings, Howell,Carr, Love,

I dont think the names are as important as the history of a settelment or something related during that vague time period.

Sure would like to shine some light on this because it is still hard to lock in who is indian and who is not and this could help. My other cousins would get a hoot out of the story having some truth to it.
