Everyone I am soooo proud of Erica. She did her first intertribal this weekend at Clarksville Pow Wow. She did a WONDERFUL 😀 job. Erica we are so happy to have you out there with us. We look forward to dancing with you again soon.

You are both two of my heroins, but what does this mean exactly?
🙂 Love, Dianne
May 14, 2007 at 11:07 pm #26372Diane when we dance we are dancing to honor Creator. Some of our Native brothers and sisters are very judgemental about who should dance…such as those who are not card carrying would be looked upon in a negative way. This sometimes causes insecurities in those of us who want to dance even though we know that card carrying does not matter because we are dancing for Creator. Erica has made a big step….she has felt insecure  at times as I am sure most of us have at one point….but Saturday..my girl just went with the spirit within her and made me sooo proud. I am most proud because I have been after her to just do it…but she held firm and waited until she was ready. I say CUDOS to Erica.:D 😀 😀

I am in that camp as Erica was. I have had many opportunities to dance in the invitational dance but have not felt it right. I think the right time might be when I am among you there. Or if it is here it will be because I know you are there. Thank you, Erica for your lead.:)

I agree, cudos Erica! I have enjoyed your posts and empathized with what you have written, but you took the first step. Jade is right, it is for the Creator, He is the one for whom we dance! This is wonderful, your determination to be yourself has given me strength. I hope to one day dance (not just in private) as well.:)

May 14, 2007 at 11:07 pm #26381Go, Erica, go!!!:D I’d have to say it is VERY encouraging to hear especially for those of us who haven’t danced yet. I guess I should get out more and get familiar with the tribes and see how they would accept me, because I LOVE to dance for the Creator! I’ll see if my aunt is planning to go to any pow wows soon. I went to one a long time ago, but didn’t like the way the audience didn’t respect the dances, etc.
Congratulations, Erica!!:D
May 14, 2007 at 11:07 pm #26388Good Morning Extended Family,
Thank you all for your support. Yes, I did dance, not once but twice, during a intertribal and I have to say that a big “load” was lifted off of me. I mean, I felt like this was my time…..as my momma danced about 6 or 7 times before I got out there. :p
Clarksville, VA is my home and I do believe that it was the right place and time for me to enter the circle.
Jade, thank you for encouraging me to “just do it” and explaining to me that we dance to honour “Our Maker” and our ancesters. We should not be concerned with what “others” have to say about it.
Blessings To You All!! 🙂
May 14, 2007 at 11:07 pm #26396That is awesome!
I got to dance for the first time at an intertribal, “everybody dance” powwow back in November and it changed everything, in a way I can’t describe, but I know you know. ;~)
Woo-hoo!

May 14, 2007 at 11:07 pm #26505All Right, Erica!!!! So proud of you! This is a wonderful thing and I’m really glad for you. Thank you, too, Jade, for the encouragement that you gave her and to all of us who want to do this.
