I didn’t which forum to post this in, so I thought I would try here.
I don’t know if this is even possible or how this would work, but I thought I would bring it up and see what everyone thought.
What if everyone were to put their “core” surnames in their signature to help everyone else recognize their “cousins” and such?
It would also be very cool if we could each have a link in our signature to our own family tree, which could be linked to everyone else’s family tree. This sounds daunting, but would be very informative.
What do you all think?

Did you get an answer about family trees? As you can see several of us are listing surnames with signature… It is a great help to me and sure others too. When you go to search it takes so much time. Often it will be the first name that comes up if you list first and last names. You look forever. I think if it is possible add a new section for family trees. I have been very lucky here and found three of you that are connected too my lines. I took several months off and on just to search the previous posts. It is most helful but your idea would sure streamline the process.

I haven’t heard anything other than what has been posted here.
I guess having the names in signatures would mess up the search function.
This would be best as a separate entity, but I don’t know how involved it would be for Linda or any of the other moderators. My guess is they have plenty to do as it is. 🙂
June 22, 2007 at 5:28 pm #27376I think you can do this yourself already if you have a genealogy at another site, like tribalpages.
If you wish to post the family trees on this web site, that would be up to Linda.

June 22, 2007 at 5:28 pm #27378My only “fear” is that such a project would turn into something that looks like my gensite at tribal-pages: At first, it was just direct-line info as I knew it or could get it proven. Slowly, a “cuzziny” line would start growing … and growing … with all sorts of information. Then, there were the “I think this must connect somehow coming back in” postings that never quite “came back in” and they’re still on my site! So now, it’s a “working” site with a lot of superfluous information and people that never quite made it back into my lines … so, I’ve got a jillion names – but only half-a-jillion are really family! In the same vein … well, I really want Dan Akins’ line to meet mine – back in my “unknowns” … and I suppose maybe I could just pencil it in for now until I can prove it somehow … and then, we’re in the same boat – a gigantic, juxtapositioned tree with a whole bunch of apples “pencilled” in with the original apples.
Let’s see, did I say anything here with my post … hmmm … guess not.
Good luck with the Tree-thing!
I’d love to see it if and when it can be done … and to be a part of it. Me and Trees – we got’ a thing going on.
June 22, 2007 at 5:28 pm #27380How about a site where we have to be members here at Saponitown with a password. Can that work?

June 22, 2007 at 5:28 pm #27383Good idea but I have a problem in that P(Booker/Pitts G./Pitts) I don’t know what G. stands for and with know paper record of my p.grandmother Quinnie Pitts-Booker I am sort of left out.
M; Betty Cheeks-Booker(MOM) Daisy Wright-Cheeks/William Cheeks Minnie Gibson/John Wright Adeline James-Wright/Wright Erving and Nora James(founders of Jamestown, South Carolina)
William Henry Cheeks Mother’s name was Mary (North Carolina Cherokee)
P; Theodore Mack Booker (Dad) Quennie Pitts-Booker/ Samuel Booker(From Virginia) Mela G(?)./William Pitts ?/?Mela G. (said to be Blackfoot/Cherokee or Blackfoot/Navajo from Marlyand) William Pitts (White said to have possible come from the Carribean or the West Indies Plantation family )

Good thought, but actually it won’t mess up the search function. It already is in a separate field that doesn’t get searched on. I just tried searching on the Hamblen/Hamlin word Janette has in her signature and it doesn’t come up in the searches.
June 22, 2007 at 5:28 pm #27385OK, I added a signature line but there are more surnames that I cannot come up with off the top of my head. But my people moved north, not south, so not to many people are connected closely.
