Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
David Dameron Gipson was b. 10 Mar., 1835, Mouth of Marrowbone, Pike, KY. He was raised by William Gipson and Elizabeth (Sweeney) Gipson who were over 65 yrs. old when David was born and certainly were not his parents! William and Elizabeth Gipson had a track record of providing foster care for poor, orphaned, abandoned, and bastard children (Pike Co., Court Records).
I have just about exhausted my search of the Gibson/Gipson familied for his biological parents and am becoming more and more convinced that at least one of his biological parents was a Dameron/Damron. In the 1830 Floyd Co., Census, a Moses Dameron family were living as neighbors to the William and Elizabeth Gipison family on Marrowbone Crk. Mose Dameron died in 1828. In the 1830 Pike Co., Census, a John Dameron family was living next to William and Elizabeth Gipson.
The info. that I have on Moses D. Dameron, Jr. is that he was b. ca. 1768, Stokes Co., NC, s/o Mosed Dameron and Aggie Owl; m. (1st) Sarah Adkins, ca. 1793, Stokes Co., NC; m. (2nd) Jennie Mullins, Pike Co., KY; d. ca. 1828, Pike Co., KY. The families of Moses D. Dameron, William Gipson, Thomas Adkins, Merrimon McGee, Greenberry Chaney, William Little, James Roberts, David Branham, and John Mullins (probably other families) all migrated to this area of Floyd (later Pike) Co., about the same time between 1810/1820, from Russell Co., VA.
If anybody can add to this please do so.
