Hello all,
I thought while you were on Bill you might be able to help me if you still have the TN census up. My grgranmawUssley or Ursula Roberts ,2nd wife to Guilford Minor , mother has been an enigma. If you Ussleys picture there is not doublt to her heritage. She was the daughter of Emanuel Roberts and supposedly the obnly name for her mother is Lucy. Ussley was said to be born arounf 1843 in Va but married in Sept of 1861 in Hancock Co Tennesse. She died there in 1910. Emanuel was the son of William Roberts and Catherine Rogers. This couple is my grgrgrgranparents on both sides. My grgrandmaw CYnthia Roberts was a cousin of some sort to Ussley. Just wondering if you had any info on this couple.
Other names: Minor/Goins/Anderson/Stapleton/Walling(Wallin)/Sizemore/Blevins/Bunch/Stamper/Brigham/Brown/Hopkins/Meece/Mounce/Jones/Sears/Barnes/Green/ etc etc.
June 29, 2007 at 7:22 pm #27282After Emanuel died, Lucy and her children were still in Lee Co., Va in 1850.
In 1860, all the children are living in separate households in Scott Co., Va, next door to Hancock Co., Tn – still working on Lucy.

When I saw the name Usley mentioned it rang a bell. In my son-in-law’s family there is an Usley Ison who married Jack Callahan. My son-in-law’s name is Roberts but I don’t have my notes here to tell exactly where the Callahans and Roberts connect. I know this is a long stretch, but is there a connection with Usley Roberts and Jack Callahan/Usley Ison Callahan? There’s a family story in the Roberts family of Blackfoot from the Callahan side.

A further note on Jack and Usley (Ison) Callahan. Jack’s father was Silas Callahan who married Betty UNKNOWN. This family was either in or eventually moved to Clay Co. KY. I’m wondering if Betty was the “Blackfoot” connection as the Blackfoot story in the Roberts family comes from the Callahan side.

June 29, 2007 at 7:22 pm #27485It is interesting no doubt. I have seen her name on papers as Ussery,Usley, Ursley. I have her picture and she is the definite NDN connection. It was shown to some of the members at the Cherokee Reservation and North Carolina, they said she was Cherokee. I am not so sure, but that she is NDN there is no doubt. We have double cousins on that side because my Gr grandmaw and grgrgrandmaw were both Roberts. My grgrandmother Cynthia or Syntha Roberts does not have the prounounced NDN features though. These Ronberts go back to Doswell Rogers. As a coincidence though, my grgrandmaw was writing some family information down, I have a copy of that paper, it claimed on her side that one of the Aunts married a Alford Ison, it stated he was Indian. They also said they were black dutch irish ( haha)
