I have photos of ALL of these people and the photos suggest a Native American ancestor. I will get the photos online in a week or so.
Photo Source: Bicentennial History of Lee County Virginia 1791-1992.
Fletcher, Duff, Olinger, Campbell, Davis, Vaughn, Crabtree, Langley, Merideth, Pendergraft, Ramsey, Reasor, Taylor, Tolly and Dean.
This is only a partial list.

I’d like to add my family names to your list from Lee Co. VA. Bowman, Cole, and Thompson also. Do you have The Early Settlers of Lee Co.?

July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #27422I have the Cole’s and the Bowman family. I am currently compiling a list of surnames that are eligible for enrollment for the Ridgetop Band of Shawnee and I am overwhelmed at the size of the list. Since I have started my research I wanted to include at least 40 surnames and It looks like I will double that. Lee County VA and Hawkins County TN should have the most but Harlan and Clay are close.
I found that I am descended from William Daugherty and Elizabeth Bunch. It is said Elizabeth was Cherokee or most likely Saponi. Many of the early Lee County population descend from this family. I have updated the Kentucky Native American Data bank (KNADB) to include many of William Daugherty and Elizabeth Bunch’s descendants.
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=ridgetopshawnee
Of course as a general disclaimer; many of the families included in the KNADB are DOCUMENTED Native American families. But I have not found solid documentation on William Daugherty and Elizabeth Bunch. I encourage everyone to submit their families and any photos and or documentation. You can send them in GEDCOM format or in a text file.
I will try to submit a list of surnames in a couple of weeks. It looks like it will be a BIG list!
The KNADB is a guide only. It has not mutated into a solid database because I am sure many mistakes exist. If anyone finds ANY mistakes in the KNADB PLEASE inform me and I will correct it.

I am the one that emailed you about Hawkins Bowman recently! Great to see you here. And I see that you live in Corbin. My cousin lives just west of Corbin and I visit him regularly. We’ll have to meet on my next trip. Small world!

July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #27449I wonder if your Lee County book has anything about Litton or Foster/Forster families that would indicate NA background. That’s my in-laws, not my ancestors. (They also intermarried with Terrys, who might be Monacan, but I wouldn’t make any bets one way or the other. And that was a little later, in Scott Co. TN.)
I also wonder if you (William) know, or knew, a Seale family in Corbin. I think they came from Lee Co. VA. I’ve had some correspondence with them (mostly, but not entirely, about 40 years ago) about an old dulcimer handed down in their family. Just another of my interests, nothing to do with the Saponi as such.
July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #27468I am sorry but I do not know that family. I am originally from Harlan County (Kenvir to be exact). I have lived in Corbin for a couple of years. I have some Shackleford family in Lee County. It is sad but I have tons of blood kin in Lee and know no-one.
I am a musician so I can relate to the old dulcimer. I was privileged enough to obtain a 41 baby Martin from my Grandmother. My 2nd Great Grandfather made fiddles and our family must be ashamed because we do not have ONE fiddle he made. He made hundreds. That is sad.
I will look and see if those families indicate a Native background.

Hi William:
I saw my John Cole and William Cole in the KNADB surname list. What do you mean regarding “enrollment for the Ridgetop Band of Shawnee”? Is the enrollment for any tribe? John Cole was Cherokee and he married Cuzzie Anderson (we’ve heard that she might be Catawba). John’s son, William, married Biddy Collins who was Saponi as far as we can determine.
I come down thru William’s daughter, Charlotte, who married Luana’s son, Charles. William and Luana were two of John and Cuzzie’s children.
July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #27490Yes any Tribe. I am trying to fill in as many names as possible on the KNADB. Each Native person named in the database would make their descendants eligible for the Ridgetop.
I have a few messes to clean up but for the most part the names in the KNADB are sound and documented.

July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #27575Considering Micager Bunch signed the petition to form Lee County, Virginia, I’d say you should include the surname BUNCH.
There were some GOINS there as well.

The Roberts and Rogers probably belong in that list too.
July 8, 2007 at 10:01 pm #33961I realize this is an old post but I’m just catching up some.
Sherrod Williams was in Lee Co., VA in 1803 on a Church Membership List. He went from there to Franklin Co., TN. He is on the Ridgetop Shawnee List and years ago I began researching him because he had a brother named Hardin which is common in my Williams Family. Since then, my brother gave his DNA sample and we match Sherrod’s DNA making us kin. Do you have anything on the Williams Family – Sherrod or Hardin in Lee Co., VA? Thanks for all your contributions.
