August 4, 2007 at 2:52 pm #28186I’m not sure where I should post this so I’ll post it here. I have alot of catching up to do. I’m so sorry to hear about Brenda. What a wonderful lady, she will be missed. This has been a year of loss of me also and why I haven’t been on the forum for so long. I feel like I should re-introduce myself as I see so many new names here. About a year and a half ago, we had a house fire. We bounced back and forth between the house and a hotel for about 6 months. Made it hard to check in. I didn’t always have access to a computer. During that time, my father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away last labor day. He was the reason I began this journey into genealogy, hoping that I could find out and tell him “what kind of Indian we were”. I’ll keep searching. The day after Dad’s funeral we had to put my Mom in the hospital and she was in and out until the end of March, when I literally had to break her out of the hospital because I got a phone call at 4:30 one AM that my Grandmother, my Mom’s Mother was dying. So I had another funeral to plan. So, about May I was able to start putting the house back together and am still trying. I have been so overwhelmed with all of it along with kids graduating college, moving in and out of apartments, etc…I very seldom get the chance to get online or even check my emails. The very first time I’ve done anything was to attend the Meskwaki PowWow with TeachTech, our husbands, and our other cousin. What a wonderful experience. It felt like I was home………..the sound of the drums was a meditation in itself. I am so blessed. Teachtech and her husband came to our house the day before my Dad passed away. He had wanted so badly to meet her…….and he felt terrible that day. I know now why, I emailed Teachtech the next day to tell her Dad had passed. We had had such a wonderful day, after about 3-4 years of emailing each other about genealogy and our lives, I got to meet my cousin, TeachTech. We had met online researching the same family lines. I can’t tell you what it meant to me to have her come and meet my family, and then she and her husband turned around and drove all the way back two days later for the funeral. Another online cousin I had never met, that TeachTech and I had been emailing and sharing information with, came to the visitation and I got to meet him. So it was really special for the three of us, plus spouses, to get to go to the PowWow. I hope we get to go to lots more. I am planning to spend some time trying to catch up on all the information here. It will take me awhile. I so miss genealogy. It’s been hard to keep my focus on what I needed to do. I feel like a slacker as it’s been so long since I’ve had anything to contribute to all the hard work being done here.
Looking forward to reconnecting with all of you. TeachTech has done a good job of trying to keep me up on things. I count her as one of my best blessings!!

August 4, 2007 at 2:52 pm #28187Aw, shucks! But ditto. Nice to have you back.
Did I ever tell you that I camp with in a group of RVs with a DeMoss? I told him to bring his genealogy. He is not into it, but his mother is.

August 4, 2007 at 2:52 pm #28189Deb…sorry to hear of your losses and seems like you have really had a rough year…wow! I hope this year is better for you and you can continue your genealogy quest. Know that you have many cousins here…related by surnames or not. I pray Creator will give you the support you need to uplift you….and don’t be a stranger.
