Hello! I am new to this community, thank you for allowing me to become a member. I have been researching my family tree since I was a teenager. I have hit a brick wall so to speak. Here is my dillema. My mother states that her mother was Cherokee, Black Dutch and Irish. She is very adamant about the “Cherokee” lineage. Now, her older sister, states that their mother was “Blackfoot Indian”. My mother, argues and still says “No, Cherokee”. So, I dont know. I do know that my grandmother had all the features of a Native American, the high cheek bones, the deep set eyes, the coal black hair, she had a lot of superstitious ways and customs. She used to read the tea leaves too. Dont know if any of this is connected, just thought Id throw it out there. Anyhow, I am listing the names in her lineage to see if anyone out here can find a connection:
My Grandmother was Cora Mae WILKEY she was born in Morley, Scott County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Rachael ACORD-WILKEY and James Virgil WILKEY.
Her mother Rachael ACORD was the daughter of Martin Van Buren ACORD and Elizabeth WRIGHT-CLICK-ACORD-REEVES. Elizabeth was from the Cocke County, TN area. Her first husband was Preston W. CLICK and her second husband was my great, great, great, grandfather Martin Van Buren ACORD. After grandfather died she married a man with the surname of REEVES. Anyhow, Elizabeth WRIGHT was born in North Carolina, probably Rowan County. I do know that Cocke County, TN borders NC and that the Cherokee Reservation is not too far across the state line from Cocke County, TN. Elizabeths parents were: Clayton/Claiton WRIGHT he was a jutice of the peace for Cocke County, TN. and her mother was Anna SNIDER. And Claytons father was Richard WRIGHT Jr.
I do not think that the Native American ancestry came through the ACORD line, however I could be wrong. They were from West Virginia and later migrated on into Illinois.
If anyone has anything they could share with me concerning either the WRIGHT line or the ACORD line and its link to any Native American ancestry I sure would appreciate you sharing it with me. Thanks again for allowing me to be here!

February 5, 2008 at 2:21 pm #29732Welcome Gwenelda. Have you tried using the site’s search button to see if your names and locations have come up before? Your family members may both be right, since it is not uncommon for people to have the ‘Cherokee Blackfoot’ stories in their families.

To this date I am still having no luck locating any info to prove or disprove this theory. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who also has the WRIGHT family in their line. They came from Davidson County, North Carolina (Probably Lexington) and later relocated to Cocke County, TN and then from there on to Hamilton County, Illinois
