I woke up today in this cold rainy weather and bopped on here, at Saponitown, and realized, much to my dismay that so very many ppl who used to come here to the forum are just….gone. 🙁 Tom, Bill, Scott, Brandon, Forest, Brenda, Aubrey, Jim to name a few….there used to be so much new stuff, so much vigor, so much drama even….working together, solving mysteries, enlightening us and challenging us too but things here sure have changed. I realize ppl get to being busy and genealogical vigor fades but I for one wonder what new blossoms will unfold here and in the future. Forgive me for the melancholy rant but it seems so stagnant here now…like a dormant forest floor with no light reaching it. I get the whole change is good thing but what can be learned by droning up stagnant waters? Is this just the way it goes at this and so many other sites? Yes, I’m full of alot of questions…many initial one’s still yet unanswered….who will mentor me and us now? Many of us agreed to disagree this is true enough but really…to what end? You bet I have met alot of new cousins here and for that I am most grateful but now, when I come here I don’t expect to be wowed any longer….but like a old stone, I roll back this direction, flop around a bit, peering for a new groove or a new morsel to snuggle up beside. I don’t have any answers as to how to “fix” the lull here….this is just my online attempt to explain how I feel and wane remiss over this lost Saponi clan. I’m waiting for a new few WOW or VWALAH or AHA moments…don’t mind me, I’ll be sipping my tea in the meantime. Blondie…..out! Blessings galore….hoping for more~~~Laurie

Hi, Laurie,
It’s drizzly mud season here too –
I wasn’t here in the beginning, so can’t compare now to then, but have to say that the old pages that have been revived have been VERY helpful to me – it’s not that easy to find this stuff with a search, when you don’t know what to search for. Or if, for instance, you’re looking for Collins info (20 pages of threads show up).
I wonder if some kind of set of reference directories/folders/archives could be made – links for especially good surname threads – links for trails, towns, tribes, maps, etc. More of like what’s on the front page, maybe? Kind of a bibliography?
Pretty labor intensive. I don’t know how to do it – but if someone had some ideas how I’d be willing to put some time into it this summer.
This is a wonderful place — there is so much amazing information here, and such a supportive community. I hope we newbies haven’t driven off the early members.
Spring starts at 1:48 AM tomorrow morning… Sun and flowers will come.

I too have felt the same about the current interaction here on Saponitown. I just assumed that some were just ignoring my post for whatever reason, so I’ve refrained from posting as much as I used to.
As far as genealogy, I’m stuck right now and have taken a break. Many posts I’ve read throughout the past several months, have been about Collins, Melungeons, Porteguese Settlement, etc. However, I do not have any connections to those threads.
Overall, I do hope that more people will utilize this website with more helpful and interesting topics.
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30183Laurie,
Thank you for posting, what I have not had the courage to say…I too miss the people who have left and the passion for genalogy that was once a part of Saponi town. Any ideas how to breathe life back into Saponitown??

March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30185I am a newbie here but had noticed after reading through the old posts that there has been a void since the first of the year …. Was wondering if some kind of impasse had been reached ????…. Or if people was fighting off the dull chains of winter and sickness?…. {i guess i wasn’t the only person that was confused by the lack of posts.} …. thanks for your time.

Hey Laurie & All, Well, though I’m kinda a newby here too, I still think I understand what your’re feeling lady. Before I joined here, I read alot of peoples posts, and I thought these are some really interesting people with some very important info. Then after I became a member, I found out that unfortuneatly Brenda had passed on and I felt kinda sad cause I never got to connect with her here, cause I so wanted to for she had Nicolas Co WVA roots as do I. Then I realized Bill Childs had taken a sabatical (and from all he did I’m sure a much deserved break), but I was dissappointed not to have connected to him. Then I noticed others were no longer posting and 2 of them were you and Shirley (Sammaroq)~~then you guys came back and that is a spark of a future Saponytown. Maybe more will return? Hopefully. Take care and stay connected (here, ok?) Blessings~~Greydove~~:) PS Also, welcome to all the new people, too.~~ u-na-li-i ~~^~~
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30194As any good gardener knows, in order to produce flowers, you must work the soil and add fertilizer…nothing grows if no work is put into it. So my inspiration to the newbies (and oldies) is to add the fertilizer to the soil here and work it in until it produces. A new year is here and spring is bursting forth….
And yes, there are lulls…it’s called real life. And come pow wow season, we will probably be guilty of the same thing.
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30199Hi Becky and All. Winter cuts many things back and actually gives a rest of sorts. I have a dwarf fig bush since we live in an apartment. Little green buds were showing a day or two ago and since this morning leaves 3 inches long and you won’t believe this–tiny little figs (not other buds) but actual figs have appeared and growing. I planted this sprout last spring and did eat figs off the bush which grew to about 4 ft in height and diameter. I cut it back to about 12-16 inches in the winter and now it is raring to go again. Ya’ll have a wonderful Easter weekend and it’s almost time to plant corn here in a week or so. Some will probably plant on Easter Monday but just a little cool yet for me. Blessings to all of you. Ed, Morehead City N.C.
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30202Real life…….. sometimes I have a whole half hour on line and that is spent mainly on email. Our work with the cemeteries continues, we dance about every other weekend from April to Oct….. and this winter, my passion has been braintanning deerskins into buckskin. Don’t often have much time for chitchat but I check by Saponitown about every day
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30205I’m still around, just working behind the scenes for the most part. And no powwows for me this summer, gas is just to spendy.
March 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm #30224I check in every so often. Keep on keeping on.
