Lots of the Va, NC, SC Siouan Surnames that was born in the early 1800’s…..I’d say a good 50 percent of the people buried in these cemeteries and was born in the early 1800’s to late 1800’s had claimed native american descent……My grandmother used to spend the entire day going thru these graveyards…..it seemed like every 3rd grave she would stop and tell me about the person……I don’t remember much about the stuff she would tell me though….I know we would stop at various graveyards when she would go to paulding county and she would just walk and walk and walk….then we would go and stop at the families that was still living’s houses….we would visit the Carter family…the Hedgepeth/hedgepath family….and a few others….I remember some of the older women we would visit would have really old photos of men with headdresses on……once agian though I have forgot the stories of the people in the photos.

And I remember clearly that all the men would tell stories about census takers….I never really understood why but apprently census takers and the Paulding county community was not so friendly hahaha heard a few stories of census takers geting punched out…and then there is a story of my grandfather coming out with a shot gun to one of them hahaha…..I still never understood why there was such hate toward the census taker though…I’ll probally never understand it….
Oh I can’t forget about the home made ice cream wooden buckets….best ice cream EVER!!!!
