Sad Stories
Hi Ga~Nc Collins, I just thought I’d come down here in “shoot the breeze” to continue our conversation. I am sorry abt your friends that lost their llives. We just never know what lies ahead in our paths. They said that my son’s friend John went off the deep end when another good friend of his was killed in a car wreck that I guess was very bad and that John went there after the fact and found some of his friends remains and being ndn he took them to the grave and went crazy. Then he went home and wrote letters to the people he loved and went down to this place in Southern Indiana where they have alot of caves (he and my son used to go there “spelunkin”(caving). He spent the day, started drinking peach brandy, watched one last sun~set, put a hose on the exhaust of his car and ran it to the inside, rolled up his windows, and went to sleep. How said for the people left here that care abt him:( I know what you mean abt like your parents. My Greatgrandmother never talked abt her ndn blood to my Dad or his siblings, anyway my Aunt thats still living said she never talked abt it and she was with her when she “went to the rain~bow bridge” But she showed them how to live in the most simple ways to not waste and to treat the earth like all should~to not take more than you need, to give if you can, etc. I think the idea of the medicine wheels is a great one G~~Take care and I hope many blessings for you~~Greydove:)(Sorry, I had to redo this cause I mispelled your avitar:rolleyes:

Collins was asking in a thread somewhere on here about depression in the Native community.
I’m still curious as to why people in my family had oral tradition of calling them self creek….I know when the families came into Ga they headed for Creek homeland…my great grand father he could speak 3 different languages pretty good….one of them just so happened to have been the creek language. I never met him but other family of mine always mention that when they talk about him….when I would go to paulding county all the women that was my grandma’s age would always start telling stories of him. My dad even tells me a story that he got picked up during the indian removal and they had tried to lead him down the trail of tears but him and some others was able to slip away thru the woods and come back to paulding county. His name is not on the removal list so I’m not sure if that story is true or not. but then again my paulding coutny family is very well known for having stills out in the woods (they used to put fish hooks on the tall grass to keep people away lol)….so he would have been by himself or with a few other guys often and could have been spotted by some officials and thought to have been cherokee…….if they would have been questioned on who they was or where they come from they would not of said anything or they would have lied lol so I think maybe they could have been picked up and refused to give any info…then when they got to the removal stuff maybe no info could have been found on them on the removal lists and then they was sent back to paulding county ( my family would have came back and told a huge story when they got back because they always like the big fish story type stuff lol…stories are like a adventure to them). another idea i have is that maybe he started wanting to brag to other people while he was drinking and say something like “I’m creek indian and them govt officials could not even get me lol” and then of course maybe someone would of told on him hahaha
O~si~yo Ga~Nc Collins, That’s funny~lol!! (abt your G~Grandpa bragging abt slippin by the “drag~net”. I was reading some of your previous posts and Martin was in some. My 4th Greatgrandmother, Mary Martin b 1820 d 1868 in Nicolas Co VA then WVA~m Solomon Bailes b 1814 Kanawha VA d 1893 Whitewater Nicolas Co WVA. I have looked for a year for her parentage~can’t seem to find it, which makes me feel she was ndn? Her son Robert Bailes m Margaret Jane Hart and she’s the Grandmother my Grandpa told me was ndn. So, I have a feeling I have more than 1 or 2 ndn blood~lines? Anyway, just wondered if you or anyone else had anything on my Grandma Martin? Thanks, Greydove:D
