I remember telling you I found some info on Meadows, when in Grundy, VA last summer…late, but here it is. I don’t know if they are some of your’s?

May 9, 2008 at 1:36 am #31422Different names and associated families. May connect back in VA at the 1750 generation. Drewry and Ratliff are in other Person Co families. My Daniel Meadows came out of eastern VA into NC about 1750. I have no idea if he had siblings or who his parents were. I suspect they had no euro names.

The reason I asked was I remember when we visited last summer, that I think you shared some family members were named Shack and Shade. This Particular Meadows family was written about in “Looking Back 100 Years, A Brief Story Of Buchanan County And Its People,” by Hannibal Albert Compton.
Excerpt on Meadows:
The older Meadows family was related to the Ratliffs, and bore nearly identical names: Shack, Shade, Paris and Alex, and a Dick now and then.

May 9, 2008 at 1:36 am #31443What’s interesting is that those names are in one of my JONES lines where I’m hitting a brick wall…… which does show common ties with my Jones line and by association with my Meadows line…… in eastern VA prior to 1750.
May 9, 2008 at 1:36 am #31446The book says that these Meadows were associated with the Ratliff’s, which Compton states, “came directly from England and settled at Jamestown…he goes on to say, “I think they spelled their name Radcliffe then.
This book is very interesting and has many familiar surnames…I will list them, however, I warn this book is hard to come by as it is out of print and I just got this one from an antiquities dealer out east.
