Someone may have already posted this, if so I apologize for the duplication. The West Virginia Division of Culture and History has a great site. On this site you can search West Virginia birth, death and marriage records and view and print an image of any records found. This site doesn’t cost anything to use and has been a great tool in my research. So if you are looking for records in WV this would be a great place to start. I like this site because with my research being sporadic I hate to pay for subscriptions to services I rarely get a chance to use and this is totally free. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx

I have used this site, but what I have always wondered is why Nicholas County is not listed?? Do you know where in Nicholas one cold go to get this info?
BTW, I will be visiting next summer, it would be really great if we could all get together! Is it Summit Lake? in Summersville? What a beautiful park and the kids had a blast catching lizards:)

November 23, 2008 at 5:06 pm #32741Hi Shirley,
No I haven’t had a chance yet to get in touch with Brenda or Belinda, I have no excuse other than life. I am currently working in Craigsville I need to take some time out and do that. I hope everything is going good with you. Things are good here, winter has came early this year so I am back at the computer digging up what information I can find.
The lake in Summersville is Summersville Lake, Summit Lake is about 40 miles from Summersville and about 10 miles from Richwood, it is on top of a mountain, most would just consider it a large pond, it is also a nice place no playgrounds or anything just the great outdoors.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History website only list death records for Nicholas County. It is my understanding that by a certain date (not sure of the date) that all counties must have their records available to the Division of Culture and History. I have been told that Nicholas County is in the process of scanning and transcribing records for this purpose. Until the records are made available to this site, records can be found at the Court House in Summersville. It is also my understanding that the Division of Culture and History site is updated as records become at least 50 years old.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
