Someone just sent me some info on her
Treacy was born on February 9, 1789, in Cheraw’s Nest Settlement, old Darlington District of South Carolina. She was the daughter of James Martin, Sr. and his wife Mary. She was married on January 17, 1802 (age 12) to David Jonathan Strickland.
My Nancy Martin was born 1834 somewhere in GA possibly Harris Co. she lists her mother as being born in NC or SC on different documents.
Does anyone have any info on Treacy’s sibs?
Thanks
January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33226Hmmm No one has run across this Martin line in their searches?

I’ve been looking at this. See this link? This seems odd to me if you look very closely. This Nancy shown here would be a younger sister to Treacy but she is married to Treacy’s son?

Also, this will From Bryan co Ga.

I had thought before that maybe Treacy and Nancy were the same person because one sight showed Mercy Treacy Martin and David Jonathan Strickland as Jonathan? The will doesn’t specifically say Treacy, but Mercy. Maybe some leads here? Saj
January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33231The difference in ages may make this possible. Treacy is by wife #1, and Nancy by wife #2 which would make them half sisters? I still wonder if Treacy isn’t Mercy. Saj
January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33232Nope thanks tho, that’s not my Nancy, she wasn’t born until 1834 and her first marriage was to Lewis Wadkins and their first child was Martha Ann Wadkins born 1853. Lewis died in the Civil War and Nancy re-married a Wilson Culberson/Culverson and had 3 more children.
I’m thinking Nancy might be a decendent of one of Treacy’s Sibs, who I’ve found out to be John 1790 and James 1804 she also had sibs Nancy Mercy 1807-1843 and Sabra 1807-1865
My Nancy’s sibs are also John and James along with several others. I know her mother was named Mary born 1810 in GA.
Thanks maybe the links can lead me to a confirmation of decendency

I realized your Nancy was born c1834. Thought you were just trying to see if there was a connection to she and Treacy.
You probably already have seen from Caswell co NC Lewis Watkins bound out three different years, the first in 1803, 2 years and one month old. Orphan base born child of color? and two more years to other people? Don’t know if there is any connection.

January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33235“Orphan base born child of color” what a thing to call a child. Does base born mean illegitimate, or does it indicate low social status?
January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33242Hmmm I’ve not heard of the bound out thing before, My Lewis Wadkins was number 2 his father was of the same name born somewhere in NC 1803.
I didn’t know they bound out indians, based on my DNA testing I have no sub-saharan blood and I’m a direct decent of Lewis Wadkins/Watkins
January 23, 2009 at 1:30 am #33260The base born term is an illegitimate child.
NAgal, back in the early days the designation of black or mulatto didn’t necessarily mean much other than what the person looked like to the census taker. Mulatto could be white and Indian or other mixed, etc. Also see Plecker in the search above. Lots of info on those threads. Saj
