Searching for: Keeler/ Hupp/ Jeffries(Jeffers/Jefferis)/ Maple/ Minor/ Jackson
Hello. I am new to the forum. I am currently researching my Grandfather’s maternal side. The family always held that his great grandmother, Samantha Stephens, was full blooded. (Although I had a blue card from the Dept of Interior – Bureau of Indian Affairs that had a doc. number on the back – it was lost 2 years ago in a move and I have not been able to find any documentation indicating her native heritage.)Until recently it was believed that his grandmother, Susan Catharine Jeffries Hupp’s father was Mr. Stephens. However, when we found Susan’s birth record it indicated that her father was S.M. Jeffers.
Solomon M Jeffers and Samantha A. Maple(?) Jeffers Stephens
-We have found Solomon M. Jeffers living with Samantha in the 1880 census.
-His Monroe Co. obituary states that he died 12 Sept 1882 and that Samantha A. Maple was his widow with 4 fatherless children.
-1850 cesus shows Solomon Jefferis living with Taylor and Levina Jefferis in Center Twp, Monroe Co, OH at age 3.0
That is all the information I have verified. The rest of the line has been “recreated” from 2 on line sources :
one source indicated that the line went :
Taylor Jeffersand Levina Minor (Found Jefferis in the 1850 census)
Elias Jeffries Sr and Deborah Jackson (Found Jeffries in the the 1860 census but is not noted as a senior)
-Deborah is recorded as household member of Rebecca J Moblry in the 1870 census in Center Twp, Monroe Co, OH. I have not been able to find a census that lists Taylor living with Elias & Deborah at this time.
Elias Jeffries and Elizabeth Woodward –
THIS IS WHERE IT GETS TRICKY…
The source (ie.”it”) indicated they married 1780 Chester Co, PA
but I have found them (Indicated married 1800 Chester co, PA on the 1750-1890 Fayette,PA Vital Records)
-(Found Elias Jeffers in E Bradford Chester, PA in the 1790 census)
-(Found an Elizabeth Woodward in W Bradford, Chester, PA in the same census record but the date of birth he had for Elias Jefferies Sr is 5 Sept 1791)
It has that Elias Jeffries was b. 1760 in Chester Co, PA d. 1841 in Fayette Co, PA
-(Found the Elias Jeffries that married Elizabeth Woodward (1750-1890 Fayette Co, PA Vital Records- DOB 1779 Chester, PA Date of Death before 1889 Fayette Co,PA)
Nathan Jeffries and Penenah Wall (.Strobe was indicated but unsure if a name or location)
– It indicated that Nathan was born 6 May 1741 E. Bradford, Penn
-(Found Chester Co, PA Wills 1713-1825 states Peninah, wife of Nathan, indicates her as a daughter-in-law…. and Nathan my son…. will of William Jefferis Sr 1 Sept 1777)
another source indicates:
Nahan Jeffries
He has the DOB 1740
Siblings: Andrew 1730
Simon 1732
Shadrack 1734
Jacob 1736
John 1738
John Jeffries and Judith Lane-
– He has John Jeffries DOB abt 1700 VA/ England
occupation- trader with the Saponi Indian tribe
– He has Judith Lane
nationality- Saponi Indian
I have emailed this gentleman inquiring about how he came about the information concerning John Jeffries and Judith Lane .
I originally had this Nathan Jefferies tied into our line as the next generation but due to finding the 1 Sept 1777 will of William Jefferis Sr it is obvious that he is not the father of Nathan Jeffries who married Penenah Wall. Perhaps this Nathan had a son William… ??? I will have to look into it some more.
Sorry this post is so long but I am hoping to find out what I can on this line. My grandfather wasn’t too happy to find out that the family bible he had believed belonged to his great grandfather actually belonged to his Grandmother’s step-father and all the names that he thought applied did not. I am really a novelist when it comes to this type of thing and would appreciate any help/ suggestions others may have.
