May 12, 2009 at 10:39 pm #33725My husband’s great grandfather is William Shelton from Patrick Co., VA and William is my Great grandfather’s brother. My husband and I are third cousins. William has a daughter named Nannie, but the birth and death dates aren’t right. My Morrison comes in by marrying William Bowlin’s daughter Henritta. My husband has Morrison coming in from marrying his grandmother Annie Clark. We need to chat sometime we may be kin. It’s a small world. Cindi

May 12, 2009 at 10:39 pm #33730Welcome, White Dove, good to see you get here. I have Smiths I suspect are involved in all this, but I pick them up in Chillicothe, Ohio. Bird (Byrd) is a name often associated with families suspected of Saponi descent. William Byrd has a “History of the Dividing Line Twixt Virginia and North Carolina” ca. 1720s that kind of kicks off that association. It’s online here: http://docsouth.unc.edu/nc/byrd/byrd.html and makes for an interesting read. He was quite the ribald character.
Kira Leigh, sorry I missed you after the pow wow. We got there late and quite a storm was kicking up. I don’t know if you tried to get there or saw the weather blowing in and gave up on the idea. I’ve got some video of the most incredible rainbow I’ve ever seen there that night. I’ll fumble around with Youtube and see what I can do to share it.
May 12, 2009 at 10:39 pm #33731Heya Debbie….. always a pleasure to see the beaming faces of you and your lovely sister (and her beautiful daughter). I have Hylton and Belcher lines from around Floyd/Carroll co area. Does your husband know that Spencer also has high probability of being VA/NC mixedblood surname? Welcome to saponitown. Hugs from Mama Bear and Grey Fox 😉

May 12, 2009 at 10:39 pm #33741Hi Ya,
I enjoyed seeing everyone at the pow wow. The Clarksville pow wow was my nieces first one and I she loved it.
Well now, we probably share a few relatives as I live at the foot of Floyd Mountain and most all the Belchers and Hyltons in that area are kin. I have researched Daniel’s lineage alittle and did know Spencer was possible NA and well as Shelton, which is his mothers maiden name. His father lived in Fayerdale (which is located on the same road as Fairystone State Park) and Mr. Spencer’s homeplace is under Philpott Lake.
