Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I’m new to the forum, so I’m sorry if this has been asked.
I am descended from Caleb Raynor Phillips who was born around 1800, probably Wilkes Co., NC area. His parents were Jonathan Phillips and Mary Parsons. According to information I found online, Mary is purportedly the daughter of Richard Parsons (~1714 – ~1785) and Elizabeth Feathers (~1725 – ~1785). I’m wondering if anyone has information about Elizabeth’s parents. I’ve seen one user submitted site that says her father was a Cherokee named Chief Big Turkey Feathers who took part in the Trail of Tears, but I’m skeptical about that, at least about the Trail of Tears part, because that would have made her father over 100. I’m also a bit skeptical on the “Chief” part because I know that is a very common myth about a female ancestor being a “Cherokee princess” whose father was a chief.
Would appreciate any help on this.
Welcome:)
I have Parson on my paternal side; the information is new, so I do not know much. However, if you search the forum, there is some info on Parsons…I will check into mine…I know them to have lived in WV for a few generations, but not much else…good luck:)
